Working together in counseling, we create and support a climate of warmth, support, & trust, to help you examine & change aspects of your life (choices, behaviors, patterns, relationships, etc.) that are not working for you. A major goal of the counseling experience will be for you to be able to make different choices about patterns and behaviors in your life and relationships, and have therapeutic support to make them work.
I look forward to assisting as you journey toward your best version of you. Making their own life decisions regarding such things as deciding to marry, separate, divorce, or reconcile, how to set up custody & visitation, etc. (While I can help clients think through the possibilities & consequences of these & other life decisions, I am not allowed by my Code of Ethics to advise someone to make a specific decision.).
Deciding to make and/or follow through on changes discussed in the counseling relationship, including completion of assigned homework activities. Disclosing and/or terminating any existing counseling relationship before beginning another, & authorizing appropriate information sharing to coordinate services.

Services
Approaches most often used help clients to: identify problem behaviors/patterns, bring them to a conscious level of awareness, & choose new, different, & more workable replacements.
This often results in a cognitive-behavioral approach to problem solving & growth.
I have experience in various approaches, including but not limited to: Reality Therapy, Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Person-Centered techniques, etc.
In both individual and family therapy, I see the overall system of family relationships & social context as important resources for problem solving.

I have both personal & clinical experience with adoption-related issues.
I do not provide individual counseling for minors under the age of seven.

Certainly there are both benefits & risks involved in your participation in the counseling experience.
While participants desire the benefits of personal growth, insight, & positive life changes, as well as growth in couple, marital, & family relationships, it is important to be aware of the potential for risks as well.
1. Counseling may reveal new concerns not identified before, or add new issues to original ones.
Enter the counseling relationship prepared to accept such a risk, and to respond via the counseling process.
