Mindful Counseling GR is a counseling practice committed to serving the greater Grand Rapids area by providing the highest quality counseling and psychotherapy services to our clients. To best serve the Grand Rapids community, we have three different locations. Each therapist has a dedicated office at a specific location so be sure to note which location your therapist practices at.

Every story is different. Every person is different. For that reason, each of the therapists at Mindful Counseling GR strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for clients of all ages, backgrounds, experiences, and stories. We encourage you to read through the bios of each therapist to see which person may be the best fit for you. Every day your child is bombarded with various messages and stories of how to act and who to be.

Finding their way amidst the messages can be overwhelming, to say the least. We help hurting, anxious, and angry kids and teens learn how to feel and express their emotions in effective and sustainable ways.
Services
Please select what kind of therapy you are looking for (for example, if you are looking for couples or individual).
If you don't see your insurance listed, please select private pay/sliding scale to discuss options available to you.
If you don't have a preferred location or would be open to working with a therapist at one location, but not another you will be able to select that.
Our administrative staff will respond during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, to let you know what we have available and answer any questions you may have about getting started.
Adult therapy is important for an individual to have a safe space to explore their experiences, interactions and beliefs.
It allows for a space where the client can explore what it feels like to say and feel without judgment.
Therapy is an experience with another person.
Unlike books, podcasts, seminars, etc, therapy is a relational experience.
Relationships have significant meaning because of what they bring up for us and how we relate to and experience one another.
The therapeutic relationship is healing because of the nature and role of the therapist, an unbiased, neutral party who can speak to their experience of the client.
Couples counseling creates a safe space for you as a couple to explore your emotions as well as the language you express yourself with.
It creates a space where a well trained nonjudgmental, unbiased third party helps re-frame, explore, and bring curiosity and clarity to your relationship.
It is difficult for individuals to understand themselves, let alone how others may be experiencing them.
Therapy provides a professional perspective that may provide insight and understanding towards relationship barriers.
Recent and significant change an often lead to a need for counseling.
This may include a change in the family (such as divorce or death of a loved one), a change in school, a change in living location, life transitions, etc. Trauma is another indicator that a child may need counseling.
It is important to monitor children's behaviors.
They tend to give signs that they may be experiencing a big emotion that needs tending.
That may be nail biting, acting out behaviors, change in school work, change in enjoyment, or change in motivation.
Whichever is the case for you, your most authentic self naturally develops survival strategies to protect itself in the aftermath.
This tends to work for you on some level until you reach a point when simple survival is no longer enough and you start to notice that a deep desire for a more authentic and life-giving way of being in the world is beginning to slowly wake up.
This desire can be disruptive and scary at times because it is calling you to leave the relative safety and familiarity of your survival strategies in order to move on to a more life-giving path.
