One major difference between humanistic counselors and other therapists is that they refer to those in therapy as 'clients', not 'patients'. This is because they see the therapist and client as equal partners rather than as an expert treating a patient. Unlike other therapies the client is responsible for improving his or her life, not the therapist.

This is a deliberate change from both psychoanalysis and behavioral therapies where the patient is diagnosed and treated by a doctor. Instead, the client consciously and rationally decides for themselves what is wrong and what should be done about it. The therapist is more of a friend or counselor who listens and encourages on an equal level. This therapy is effective with Anxiety and Panic Disorders.

Take control of your thoughts and behavior The underlying concept behind Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is that our thoughts and feelings play a fundamental role in our behavior. For example, a person who spends a lot of time thinking about plane crashes, runway accidents and other air disasters may find themselves avoiding air travel.

What makes Marvin unique as a counselor is his personal narrative.
He has overcome his own addiction and destructive nature.
At his lowest point of his life he found himself homeless and alone on the streets begging for money.
Today he has been sober and happily married for 25 years.
Through these experiences, he was inspired to get two Masters Degrees in counseling to help others.
This balance of academia and real life exposure gives you a unique counseling experience.
Marvin is skilled in many different therapy styles (Cognitive Behavior, Person Centered and Solution Focus Therapies).
Dr. W.H. Auden states that we live in the age of anxiety.
Most of us suffer from a certain level of chronic anxiety because modern life is jagged, fast-paced, and divorced from the natural rhythms that tend to create a harmonious inner life.
For some, this existential unease goes further and becomes a psychological disorder.
Typical symptoms of anxiety disorder include feelings of tension, irritability, worry, frustration, turmoil, and hopelessness, along with insomnia, restless sleep, grinding of teeth, jaw pain, an inability to sit still, and an incapacity to cope.
When relationships are going well, there's nothing like it.
When the relationship is going bad, it can be emotionally and mentally draining.
A failing relationship can dramatically diminish one's quality of life and could start affecting one's health.
After months of no change, it is so easy to throw in the towel.
Women tend to see the signs first and tend to encourage counseling but if your partner is not ready, he will say no!
One of the advantages of having a male counselor is that he does not feel outnumbered.
Work deadlines, family demands, relationship problems, traffic jams, missed appointments, forgotten birthdays, personality conflicts, college exams-all of these things and many more can be sources of stress.
Furthermore, though most of us associate stress with unpleasant events, even wonderful events in our lives, like weddings, vacations, and holidays, can be genuinely stressful.
The effects of stress on your health can be far-reaching.
Some of the conditions often associated with stress include insomnia, high blood pressure, tension headaches, anxiety, depression, decreased mental function, and drug or alcohol abuse.
Nobody is immune to life problems and the toll it can take on our mental health.
With more than 10 years experience, I provide professional and confidential mental health counseling services to diverse people.
I do not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation or personal identification and believe that through connection and compassion we can resolve any problem together.
Positive change is possible even in times of great adversity.
