I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, Registered Play Therapist, and EMDR Certified Therapist.
I graduated from the University of North Texas with a Master's degree in counseling, specializing in Play Therapy.
With the passion to help and enrich my expertise, I have completed extensive training on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to assist population in need.
After serving in a non-profit agency for five years, I decided to chase my dream and fully carry over my experience into a private practice setting.
Children are going through different developmental stages as they grow up.
At a young age, children typically are limited to verbal and cognitive ability to freely express themselves as adults do.
Children are more likely to communicate (verbally or non-verbally) with toys that they have difficulties expressing with words in a warm, welcoming, accepting, and safe environment.
Play is a child's natural language and toys are their words.
Play therapy to children is talk therapy to adults.
Play therapy is designed to help children age 3 to 12 overcome emotional difficulties and enhance personal strengths.
When children grow into adolescent stage, they are experiencing a number of changes and new challenges in life: physical development, hormonal changes, social scrutiny and skill building, as well as transitioning into abstract thinking.
At this stage, teenagers are in search of themselves in terms of their identity, physical appearance, moral standard, and social behaviors.
They might stumble on the road in finding their answers and struggle emotionally.
They can often feel lost, scared, anxious, and sad as stress and external challenges accumulate.
As we step into the adult world, we are bound to encounter challenges and setbacks at times: heading to college for the unknowns, building a career path, going through relationship ups and downs, struggle with parenting, and any traumatic events from past or present.
A mental break-down or dysfunctional behaviors might set in and existing conditions could worsen when related feelings and thoughts are not properly taken care of as you fight through all the struggles.
Sometimes, it helps to talk to someone without your feelings and thoughts being judged and to explore/develop new tools to better adapt to a changing life.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment to help reduce distress that is caused by past traumatic memories or emotion-charged events.
When a traumatic or negative event happens, the related memories, images, feelings, beliefs, and body sensations would get stuck in our brain.
When past trauma is not fully processed, it is likely to impact one's life in the present time.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to re-activate your brain where traumatic memories or negative beliefs are stored in order for them to process through and reconnect with relatively positive emotions, beliefs, and body sensations.
