I was working as a summer camp counselor when I realized that trying to help someone change their life for the better is basically impossible unless you look at all the different things that are making their life difficult. No one sets out to have hardships. No one sets out looking to struggle personally, educationally or financially. The school of hard knocks doesn't come with an elective in coping skills for all that life seems to throw at us.

I became a therapist because I genuinely wanted to help people. I feel connected to those who are struggling and something in me is pulled towards helping them feel better. My first summer as a camp counselor I learned that wanting to help people feel better and being able to make a change in their lives are two very different things. So I set out to get the best training I could to find out how to actually help people experience lasting life improvement.

It led me to the field of Marriage and Family Therapy, which sounds like all I do is work with couples.
Services
Therapy is for all.
Regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, past behaviors, current issues, or future worries.
If you're in a place of needing to move on from past hurts, struggling with current circumstances, or have anxiety over things of the future, I would love to help you find a New Way to enjoy life more.
Everyone deserves at least one hour a week to focus on themselves, feel cared for and heard, and helped to figure out how to handle the challenges of life in a new way.
No matter what you do it seems like you can't get ahead of your to-do list and you can't stop feeling guilty that you haven't gotten enough done.
You end most days tired, wishing things felt better but not knowing how to get there.
You vow that you'll make more effort, set a better schedule, and prioritize the right things.
But the next day comes and you just feel overwhelmed and like you're scrambling.
Every attempt to feel better just leaves you feeling like you have more to do.
Asking for help feels impossibly hard, you feel like you've got too much for anyone to be able to help.
A lot of people experience anxiety when under a lot of stress, or if a big life change is happening.
Some people have undergone trauma in their life, anxiety has been a lasting result.
Often times, anxiety and depression show up together, which makes for a real struggle.
The good news is this: Anxiety doesn't have to rule your life.
Individual counseling is helpful for a variety of reasons.
It can aid in increasing an individual's self-awareness, encouraging self-exploration, identifying boundaries, enhancing communication skills and improving the use of healthy coping skills.
People often think that trauma is only physical or sexual abuse.
However, Trauma is so much more than that, and much more common than people think.
Many people experience trauma and then struggle to function or complete everyday tasks because these traumas have been unresolved.
Sometimes people aren't even aware that they are nervous, anxious, stressed, or sad because of any trauma.
Regardless of the trauma you've experienced, it generally effects your daily functioning and relationships.
Unresolved trauma can contribute to mental health disorders, anxiety, stress, and depression.
New Way Counseling's commitment to diversity and social justice means that we strive to attend to issues of power, privilege, and oppression in training, research, and professional service.
We recognize the complexity and intersection of race, ethnicity, class, ability, age, culture, nationality, immigration status, gender and sexuality within society.
We work to create a therapeutic experience that welcomes and affirms people to be their whole selves, honoring their multiple identities and lived experiences.
