We seek the help of a psychotherapist when we feel cut off from our internal sources of clarity and aliveness or when we feel blocked in our desire for wholesome connections with those we care about. The purpose of my work is to assist you in finding healthy ways to uncover your inborn sources of creativity and vitality--in relationship with yourself, your friends, your partner, your family, and the world in general.

We define healing as entering with mercy and awareness those areas we've withdrawn from in fear and judgment.
Services
My approach to psychotherapy is influenced by relational principles developed at The Stone Center at Wellesley College, by somatic and mindfulness based theories-particularly Re-Creation of the Self-and by my personal experience through many years of Zen sitting practice.
I live on a ridge top in the Santa Cruz mountains where I spend lots of time in the woods, and draw vitality from the changes of light through the seasons.
The Latin root for "emotion" is the verb "motere - to move."
It is in being in touch with our own feelings-and with our own hearts-that we touch the hearts of others and both people grow.
It is of primary importance to me to help create a sense of safety in the therapy relationship.
If our inner resources are overwhelmed, our self-protective walls become rigid and habitual.
We find ourselves imprisoned in a fortress of our own making-disconnected from others and from ourselves.
We feel isolated and alone.
When we feel cut off from adequate resources to take good care of ourselves and those we love, we suffer.
When we are not cut off from our essential nature, our primary instincts guide us to create mutually rewarding compassionate relationships.
