Some 15 million Americans a year struggle with depression, an illness that comes in many forms-from major depression and seasonal affective disorder, to dysthymia and bipolar disorder.
Depression is an illness that increasingly afflicts people worldwide, interfering with concentration, motivation and many other aspects of everyday functioning.
It is a complex disorder, involving many systems of the body, including the immune system, either as cause or effect.
It disrupts sleep, and it interferes with appetite, in some cases causing weight loss, in others weight gain.
Coping with losing a loved one is one of life's great difficulties.
If you have experienced the pain of mourning, you know that any way to ease the loss is welcomed.
While our knowledge and study of grief continues to evolve, it's important to note that not everyone grieves the same way: We have individual patterns and outlets for grief.
LGBTQ is an acronym that stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer or Questioning, and is used to designate a community of people whose sexual or gender identities can create shared political and social concerns.
The LGBTQ acronym does not encompass everybody and different organizations may use fewer or more letters, for example, an 'I' to indicate Intersex* people.
The LGBTQ community, commonly referred to as the gay community, is a loosely defined grouping of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) and LGBT-supportive people, organizations, and subcultures, united by a common culture and social movements.
Love is one of the most profound emotions known to human beings.
There are many kinds of love, but most people seek its expression in a romantic relationship with a compatible partner.
For some, romantic relationships are the most meaningful element of life, providing a source of deep fulfillment.
The ability to have a healthy, loving relationship is not innate.
A great deal of evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship begins in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, protection, stimulation, and social contact.
