She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin.
Later, she returned to school and received a Master's of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston.
Betsy went on to obtain additional training and experience in play therapy, filial therapy, crisis counseling, and individual and group therapy for children and adults.

She tailors her therapeutic approach to each individual drawing largely from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
