Albemarle Counseling Associates, PLLC is a small private counseling practice in Charlottesville, VA. We are located in the Belvedere Neighborhood off of Rio Road East. Owner John Penn Turner, LPC, LSATP, began his work in Richmond, VA with the St. Mary's Hospital inpatient substance addiction unit in 1992, while in the Master's in Counseling Program at the Medical College of Virginia.
In 1993, John Penn moved to the Charlottesville, VA area and began working in the Waynesboro Community Hospital on the Recovery Choice unit. This unit provided inpatient, outpatient and continuing care services to newly recovering alcoholics and addicts. During his tenure there, he received his M.S. in Counseling from MCV. In 1996, the Waynesboro Community Hospital and the Staunton Hospital (King's Daughters) merged to one facility, Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, VA.
John Penn moved into this new facility and worked until he transferred to Region Ten Community Services Board, in Charlottesville, in 1999.
