My name is Kate Halinski and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 15 years of counseling experience.

I specialize in counseling children and adolescents struggling with trauma, anxiety or depression utilizing play therapy and expressive art techniques. I work collaboratively with parents and guardians to teach creative and effective parenting strategies to improve family relationships.
Services
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in the state of Texas, a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and EMDR Trained.
From 2009-2016, I worked as an Adjunct Professor in the Professional Counseling Masters Program at Texas State University, teaching a variety of clinical courses focusing on child and adult counseling.
I earned my B.S. in Communication Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and my M.S. and Ph.
D. in Counseling from the University of North Texas.
Proudly, I received my play therapy training from the top ranked play therapy program in the world, the University of North Texas.
I counsel children utilizing Play Therapy, which is the most developmentally appropriate counseling intervention for children.
In Play Therapy children are given the opportunity to 'play out' feelings and problems just as an adult 'talks out' feelings and problems in talk therapy.
Play Therapy utilizes play, children's natural medium of expression, to help them express their feelings more easily through toys instead of words.
Play Therapy is intended to help children become more responsible for behaviors, develop more successful strategies, develop respect and acceptance of self and others, while learning new social and relational skills.
I counsels adolescents by incorporating activity and expressive art therapy into treatment.
These activities are a developmentally appropriate intervention that allows the adolescent to explore his or her thoughts and feelings using metaphors.
The use of metaphors helps to create therapeutic distance and increases the emotional safety of talking about his or her problems.
Within the safety of the activities, the adolescent is free to explore and resolve their issues.

Additionally, I offer Child Parent Relationship Training, (CPRT) or Filial Therapy.
In an individual or group setting, parents are trained to become therapeutic agents with their own children by learning basic child-centered play therapy skills.
You watch your child struggle each day and it takes all of your energy to make sure your child won't fall apart.
People comment on how your child is stubborn, rigid and moody but you know the truth as you watch them overcome with crippling anxiety.
Their fits are exhausting and they suck you dry! Sometimes you don't know whether you should punish your child for acting this way or hold them because you know they are struggling.
You are a conscientious and loving parent who would do anything to help your child find relief from this crippling anxiety, but you feel like you are banging your head against a wall and making no progress.
