Dr. Benna Strober works with children, adolescents and young adults. Problem areas include communication gaps between parents and teens, divorce and adjusting to young adulthood. Parenting can be joyful, but when it's hard - it can be really hard. Seeing your child making the same mistakes over and over again, despite all your efforts, can be absolutely devastating.
It may lead to self-doubt, fears for their future, and even reactions coming out of frustration, that you later regret. I am Dr. Benna Strober, a licensed psychologist located in Mount Kisco, NY and I am glad you are visiting my website. I am known as a caring and effective psychologist who will help you and/or your child work through your difficulties, whether they require short-term intervention or longer-term treatment.
Most importantly, I help my clients find healthier coping strategies and make smarter choices. I am here to help and I invite you to call (914) 329-5355 for a complimentary and confidential phone consultation.

Services
I obtained my master's and doctorate in School/Clinical Psychology from Pace University in 1995.
I worked in private schools in NYC prior to working as a school psychologist in the alternative high school for White Plains School District in White Plains, NY.
After starting my own family, I left the school setting and opened my private practice to help children, teens and their families in a different modality to broaden the population I could serve and support.
In my private practice I offer individual therapy for children, adolescents and young adults, as well as their parents with a focus on helping create healthier coping strategies and a stronger self-esteem.

I work closely with the family law community to provide Reunification Therapy.
This service will typically be initiated through a court-order or an attorney referral.
The goal of Reunification Therapy is to repair the parent-child relationship within the context of a high-conflict divorce/separation.
You and your family members will usually be asked to participate in Reunification Therapy if a parenting plan, assigned by the court system, is not being followed, when a parent and child have been estranged for a prolonged period of time (for example, due to past history of abuse, incarceration, substance abuse, and domestic violence), when a child is having difficulty establishing or maintaining a relationship with a parent, or when there is conflict between a parent and a child.

Discovering that your child is injuring themselves through cutting or other forms of self-injury can be a frightening experience for a parent.
In addition to worrying about your child's safety, you also have many questions about why your child would make this choice and how something like this could be happening in your family.
I work with teens who cut / self-injure who each have their own story to tell in regard to why they do it and what triggers them to do so.
I've put together a "Parent's Guide to Self-Injury" to help you understand what self injury is all about.

Before beginning individual psychotherapy, I require we meet for a consultation at my rate for individual therapy ($250).
This consultation is an opportunity to discuss the reasons for you/your child seeking therapy, readiness to engage in therapy and what you hope to accomplish.
It is also an opportunity for you to see how I work and to decide if you find my approach helpful.
If we agree to proceed with ongoing therapy, we will then find a convenient day and time to meet.
My basic fee ($250) for individual therapy is based on a 45-minute session.
