My name is Sally Erickson, and I am a licensed mental health counselor and certified addictions professional. Counseling is a shared journey between counselor and client, with the counselor acting as a guide and providing a safe and nurturing environment for the client to examine their feeling, thinking, and behavior patterns through a process of genuine dialogue with the counselor.
I believe that the most important tool that I use in helping clients to reach their goals is the relationship that I develop with them. All counseling involves the process of change. Carl Rogers, a pioneer in the field of psychotherapy, stated, "Therapy is a unique and dynamic process, different for each individual". While I agree with that statement, I also believe there are certain commonalties contained within a healthy and positive therapeutic relationship.
Relationships are a catalyst for growth. Most couples bring "unfinished business" into their relationships. Unfinished business is another way of describing unexpressed feelings of anxiety, grief, abandonment, resentment, etc.
