The benefits to meeting in person is that you are less distracted by outside influences (other people, trying to multi-task, etc). You are able to take time for yourself. This also helps you practice "taking time for yourself" and once therapy has discontinued, you can continue to enjoy taking an hour to meet your own needs. This is beneficial if you live too far to drive, there is poor weather, or want to meet during your lunch break.

As long as you reside in Virginia tele-counseling may be a plus for you. For this reason I have specialized in and have become a master clinician in the area of Anxiety and Panic Disorders and those conditions that tend to go with them, such as High Stress, Personal and Professional Burnout, ADHD, and Emotional Eating. I am a solution-focused Health Psychologist.

A solution focused approach is one that concentrates on finding solutions to help you reach your goals. This approach does require that you know what you need to improve your life, however, if you are not sure I can help you discover what you might need.
Services
Support for First Responders or Families of First Responders (Police, Firefighters, EMTs, etc).
While I am trained in many aspects of mental health counseling and coaching, I no longer work as a generalist.
I have found more satisfaction in fine tuning my skills and being able to be more effective for my clients.
I now specialize in only Anxiety Disorders, Panic/Phobias, High Stress, ADHD Testing, Bariatric Pre-Surgery Testing, Emotional Eating, and Health and Wellness/Integrative Coaching.
I do not work with children or adolescents.
Does your life feel like you are in a tornado.
You're stuck in the center, everything swirling around you but you don't know how to get out.
It can feel hard to catch your breathe.
Anxiety, constant worry, low self-esteem, low self-confidence can keep us in this tornado.
When life is like this, we need help.
But that is scary too, isn't it?
Telling a stranger all of your fears.
That in itself can cause our anxiety to get worse.
I understand that fear.
I once had a life filled with worry.
The worry of building a career, raising two children, marriage difficulties, making sure I could pay the bills, and so many other "little" things.
Have you experienced a medical condition?
Experiencing PVCs, tumor, IBS, thyroid disorders, and more can come as a surprise and even when we work with our medical provider and are able to resolve the medical issue, we still fear the recurrence of that issue.
We may repeatedly seek reassurance from doctors, insisting on repeated medical tests, and visits to the ER and urgent care, to confirm our stability.
Being reassured by the doctor that there is no serious medical illness brings relief -- temporarily.
Job burnout is a special type of work-related stress - a state of physical or emotional exhaustion that also involves a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity.
Some experts think that other conditions, such as depression, are behind burnout.
Although some research suggests that many people who experience symptoms of job burnout don't believe their jobs are the main cause.
Whatever the cause, job burnout can affect your physical and mental health.
Consider how to know if you've got job burnout and what you can do about it.
For first responders-the firefighters, police officers, military personnel, emergency dispatchers, EMTs and others who keep us safe-work can mean close encounters with danger, chaos and tragedy, sometimes on a daily basis.
It is important to take the time to re-balance your life, to talk about your lived events, and to clarify the values and goals that you live by, ensure that you give to yourself as much as to other.
Another bonus to getting help is this: It's not just you who benefits.
You family, your friends-all the people who are closest to you and are often the first to notice your struggles-will gain much from the improved relationship you've built with yourself.
