Mark started in the field of mental health 30 years ago tending to the needs of the chronically mental ill. Mark believes the core of our profession is to relieve the suffering and heartbreak of people trying to cope with the worst moments of their lives. Struggling to overcome life's tragedies can overwhelm are emotional wellbeing and cause greater burdens.

He also believes through successfully healing that pain, we can find hope and strength. Mark's professional philosophy combines encouragement and understanding, with psychotherapeutic techniques and skill building. Each client's experience is unique, and their treatment is uniquely created to meet their particular goals.

His experience spans a wide array of emotional and psychological difficulties, but the focus of his practice is primarily working with people suffering from the pain of grief, trauma, and substance addiction.Of all the psychotherapeutic techniques he employs, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is often the most powerful in relieving the painful effects of a variety traumas.

Waves of grief can overcome us in an instant-like a tsunami out of nowhere.
Those grief tsunamis are often triggered by something we see, smell, hear, taste or touch.
We can get overwhelmed in the grocery store when we reach for our loved one's favorite sauce, only to be struck by the realization that they are no longer with us.
We understand how incredibly isolating the world can feel after your heart has been broken in a million pieces.
When your world has been turned upside down, we can help you regain your footing and find hope again.
Trauma results from many types of disturbances.
Trauma can originate from a single event or from multiple experiences.
An event becomes traumatic when the experience is highly distressing and overwhelming.
During the event you may have feelings of helplessness, powerless or feeling trapped.
Often you're left feeling unsafe and frightened and remain on-guard even after the event has passed.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is the result of experiencing one or multiple traumatic events with the development of several specific symptoms.
Close your eyes and imagine a calm place.
This can be a place you have been or one you create that feels safe and peaceful.
Pay attention to the sensations.
What does this place look like?
Notice the colors, sounds, and any smells in the air.
What can you feel?
Notice the temperature and how the air moves around you.
Enjoy the pleasant physical sensations of being there.
Stay for as long as you like, and then when you are ready, slowly open your eyes and return to the here and now.
We've been helping people for more than 30 years and we've seen any number of types of therapy come and go.
So when we get excited about a type of therapy, that says a lot! EMDR is just that-exciting, effective and fast.
This isn't just us saying that, There is plenty of research showing time and time again that EMDR gets positive results significantly sooner than traditional talk therapies.
AND that means people are feeling better-sooner.

It can be helpful to have someone to talk to about your emotions.
Someone who is trained in how to help you through the pains of grief.
Someone who YOU don't have to take care of or worry about hurting their feelings.
Many times, our clients will tell us they have felt so isolated in their grief and don't want to "burden" their friends.
