Maps Counseling Services
Since its founding in 1973, Maps Counseling Services has endeavored to integrate effective and compassionate psychotherapy with the guiding principals of spirituality in order to help people find meaningful answers to life's problems. And in keeping with our mission, Maps furnishes these services in accordance with our clients' ability to pay for them.

For 48 years, this mission has guided Maps through challenging times and has helped us become the largest private provider of outpatient psychotherapy in the Monadnock Region. Maps began its existence as a pastoral counseling agency, founded by a group of Keene ministers who believed that psychotherapy and spiritually were inherently bound by a commitment to caring for others.

Indeed, our very name once stood for The Monadnock Area Pastoral Counseling Service (MAPCS). Years later it was shortened to MAPS for Monadnock Area Psychotherapy and Spirituality Services (MAPS), and then in 2017 it became Maps Counseling Services (Maps). Although no longer a pastoral agency, Maps continues to honor the importance of non-sectarian spirituality both in our practice and in our relationships with each other.
Services
With 18 licensed psychotherapists, Maps offers a broad range of services for clients of all ages.
Whether your problem is depression, anxiety, substance abuse, a relationship issue, trauma, work or school related or something else, if you are unhappy or your life is not working the way you want it to, Maps likely has a counselor for you.
Maps services are divided into Adult Services and Child & Adolescent Services.
We have specific programs for each service, such as our substance abuse program or our program for people who are recently divorced.
The Monadnock Area Pastoral Counseling Service (MAPSCS) was founded in Keene, New Hampshire in 1973 by a group of local ministers and lay people interested in providing professional pastoral counseling and pastoral care.
The founders intentionally established MAPSCS as a decentralized organization with staff offering counseling in local churches and coming together for training and supervision.
The early group wanted to focus their finances and resources on training and not on buildings or offices.
The Maps Board of Directors is an integral part of the daily operation of Maps Counseling Services.
Due to our size, Maps does not have administrative positions for finance, marketing, human services or other roles that many agencies take for granted.
Instead, these tasks are the responsibility of board members in partnership with our Executive Director.
For example, our Board Treasurer works closely with our Executive Director to help prepare our annual budget, and with our office manager to produce monthly financial reports.
Tina Borsa, LCMHC is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Keene and Maps Training Director.
As a clinician, she specializes in caring for children and their families, adolescents and adults.
Tina brings her experience with play therapy to working with children who are dealing with trauma, behavioral and emotional problems.
She works with children and adolescents with behavioral, school and social problems.
Tina is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) as well as mindfulness techniques and family systems theory.
We value and honor the integration of spirituality.
There is recognition and praise for the diversity of our spiritual perspectives, and for our client-centered perspective which begins with each client's unique view of spirituality.
Spirituality is understood as a function of our holistic approach to psychotherapy, providing individualized care that is culturally sensitive.
There is a desire to preserve our culture by recruiting clinicians who are committed to the integration of spirituality into the therapeutic process with clients and the way we hold and support each other as colleagues.
