My name is Earl Williams, (LCSW #4201 and MFT #6179). I am a licensed clinical social worker and marriage and family therapist. I have 32 years of experience as a therapist. My office is in Fountain Valley, California, convenient to Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Westminster, and Garden Grove. I offer psychotherapy which includes individual counseling, marriage counseling, and family counseling.
I specialize in anger management, parent-child conflict, mood disorders, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and communication issues. My practice is open to adults and children 5 and older. I stress a cognitive behavioral approach to anger management, psychotherapy, and marriage counseling, which involves examining how clients think while encouraging them change their thinking in such way as to take more control of their lives and feelings.
I offer reasonable rates for anger management, marriage counseling, and psychotherapy and I will consider a sliding scale for people with low income and no insurance.

Anger is an emotion and an inevitable part of our lives.
We cannot control the act of being angry.
But we can control the degree of anger we feel, and our response to provoking situations.
Basically, to control anger, you need to view a provoking situation realistically with a sense of proportion.
You then need to respond effectively.
This means neither overlooking the problem, hoping it will go away, or overreacting.
It is hard to imagine a person physically beating himself up.
But we actually beat ourselves up mentally and emotionally by our responses to anger situations.

This is not intended to be a complete explanation of cognitive therapy but rather just a brief overview.
Cognitive therapy is an effective psychotherapy for anger management, marriage counseling and individual problems.
Every human being has millions of thoughts going through his mind every day.
The vast majority of these thoughts do not give anyone a problem and are just a normal part of brain and human functioning.
However some of these thoughts to do become problematic because they are usually found in core beliefs that people have about themselves, which are also called schemas.
