My name is Kristen Tomczyszyn and I'm a native Texan, who grew up in small towns across West Texas. I developed an interest in therapy after working for the American Cancer Society in Austin, TX following my college graduation. I enjoyed supporting individuals through the complex emotions of their diagnoses. This experience led me to seek an MA in Counseling from St. Edward's University in Austin.
Following graduation, I began volunteering with Capital Area Counseling in East Austin and saw private practice clients with Austin Family Counseling in Westlake. I have been working in private practice since 2012. I moved to San Marcos in 2014 to work with young adults and college students. I love the energy of San Marcos and, of course, the river!
I began my own therapy as a teenager, where I learned to better understand myself and my experiences. I returned to therapy in college and found that having a space carved out each week for myself increased my wellbeing, interpersonal skills and relationships.

Services
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of therapy that aims to alleviate distress following disturbing life experiences.
The goal of EMDR is to properly process traumatic memories, therefore reducing their impact and negative charge.
During EMDR therapy, the client will recall distressing events while receiving bilateral sensory input.
Bilateral stimulation allows the client to access and reprocess negative memories, eventually leading to decreased psychological arousal surrounding the memory.
