Since young people learn most quickly through play, we use play-based approaches to help improve behavior, mood and relationships.
We have invested in extensive post-Masters training that allows us to utilize the best evidence-based approaches and understand Child Development and Child Psychology.
We believe that parents are our "co-therapists" and prefer active parent involvement in treatment whenever possible.
We utilize Child-Centered Play Therapy, Adlerian Play Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, principles based in Theraplay, or Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to connect with children.

Play provides a wide variety of benefits for children.
Through play, children build and strengthen socio-emotional and cognitive skills.
Children at play have agency (control over their own actions) and feel socially and emotionally safe.
They express themselves freely, trying out different behaviors or ideas, without fear or anxiety.
Peter Gray (2017) defines play as an activity that (1) is self-chosen and self-directed, (2) is motivated more by means than ends, (3) is guided by mental rules, and (4) includes a strong element of imagination.

We've known sandtray therapy is powerful for years (since the 1930s) but have only fairly recently realized WHY it's so powerful.
We can now peek inside the brain with fMRI's and understand how our brain processes information.
Information is processed first with pictures and THEN with words and linguistics are attached to it.
This makes sense if you think about it-- Developmentally, we can process images WAY before we can process words.
I bet if you think about it, this still happens.
Ever seen a picture that affected you from a certain way in your body and mind, but you struggled to put it into words?
