EMDR therapy is recognized as an effective form of trauma treatment.
EMDR stands for: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
No one knows exactly how EMDR works.
However, we do know that when a person is very upset, their brain cannot process information as it does ordinarily.
One moment becomes "frozen in time" and remembering a trauma may feel as bad as going through it the first time because the image, sounds, smells and feelings haven't changed.
New Directions Counseling Center, LLC is excited to announce our new partnership with Sherman Counseling, a counseling practice located in the Fox Valley.
We want to assure you that New Directions' name, locations, therapists, and staff will remain the same.
It is important to us that you know we share practice philosophies with Sherman Counseling which includes providing the highest level of care for our clients in a confidential, safe and warm environment.
Our commitment to improving the quality of your life and your relationships are most important to us and that will never change.
With spring now here and the weather warming up, it is a great time to get out and enjoy time in nature.
What many people don't realize is that time in nature has many healing benefits for the mind and body.
If you are feeling worn out, stressed or even depressed, consider making some time to go walk in a park, hike through a state forest, bike on rural trails or enjoy time on the water.
All of these activities can do wonders for improving mental health.
Additionally, it can ease depression.
According to a study from the University of Michigan, group nature walks are linked to enhanced mental health and positivity, as well as significantly lower levels of depression and feelings of stress.
