Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive treatment developed for individuals with complex clinical presentations and multiple comorbidities.
DBT is intended to help people who experience pervasive emotional dysregulation, which means frequent, intense emotional responses that the individual finds difficult to change.
DBT works by helping clients learn effective strategies for regulating emotions in order to achieve more balanced emotions, behavior, and thoughts.
DBT has been evaluated and found to be effective among individuals from diverse backgrounds in terms of age, gender, sexual orientation, and race/ethnicity.
Play therapy is an evidence based format for counseling and psychotherapy.
Play is the language of children.
Play therapy incorporates the use of creative and play techniques rather than standard talk therapy to allow children to express their thoughts and feelings.
It incorporates evidenced based interventions for children facilitated by a play therapist with specialized training.
The core principle of the SITCAP model is providing children with the opportunity to safely revisit and rework the primary subjective experiences of trauma.
This is done within the sensory, not the cognitive context in which the experiences are experienced, stored, and remembered.
PTSD symptoms, grief, and trauma-related mental health reactions can be significantly reduced in ways that support growth while resilience and gains are developed.
Developed and used over the past 24 years, field-tested in schools and community agencies, SITCAP is supported by the latest scientific advances in neuroscience and has been featured in leading scholarly journals and numerous books on childhood trauma.
