My interest in understanding and helping people began far before my formal training and education. I started my "training" early, as I would often buy used psychology and sociology books to read as a teenager from a local thrift store (many of which still sit on my bookshelf). I found learning about the mind and different personalities fascinating, so my profession as a therapist now seems most fitting.

As a child, I was also influenced by a family member's grassroots efforts in starting various programs for underprivileged children and I enjoyed being a young helper alongside these programs. Although our businesses operate separately, my office suite is shared with my husband Doug's guitar studio. I'm happy to share with you a bit of his talent in composing and playing Spanish guitar.

I received a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Children, Youth, & Families from Delaware State University. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Delaware. I'm also a professional member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

Has your doctor advised you not to take certain medications during your pregnancy, and you need help managing depression or anxiety without meds?
Nearing the end of your pregnancy and starting to feel overwhelmed and panicked about labor and delivery?
It doesn't have to be your first pregnancy to fear losing control, or to be worried about the uncertainties of giving birth.
I can help you prepare for delivery so that you are as relaxed as possible during the birthing process.
If you have experienced medical or sexual trauma in the past, you might be concerned that all the people and equipment around you during labor could trigger painful old memories and combative defenses.
You may have heard that grief is a normal process, but nothing about a miscarriage, stillbirth, the passing of a sick premie, sudden infant death, or the death of a child of any age seems normal.
The pain is so deep that you might think you will never survive it.
Some parents say that a part of them has died too, and they are forever changed.
Counseling can help you make sense of these feelings so that you can go on with your own life.
You might be feeling trapped in the trauma of your loss right now.
Feeling anxious about your safety, or that of your family, despite taking few risks and living in a safe community?
Maybe you have been so worried and nervous lately that it is interfering with the ability to concentrate, make decisions, or have patience with family and co-workers.
Everybody worries now and then.
But when anxiety starts to take over your daily life, and your usual coping methods aren't working, counseling combined with EMDR can be very successful.
If any of these signs are a constant or frequent theme for you, I'd like to help you change that.
Have you been telling yourself you're worthless, that nothing you do matters to anyone?
Feeling discouraged to the point of hopelessness, and isolating yourself from friends and family?
Sometimes, having a bitter disappointment when you were expecting a positive outcome will cause a temporarily negative mood.
But if this has been going on for a few months, and you can't easily identify a reason for these feelings, you might be experiencing depression.
If you are struggling with depression, I can help you regain healthy self-esteem, find hope for your future and connection with your social supports, and have a new lease on life.
