Our goal is to help you and your loved ones find effective ways to cope with the struggles of life. At Stribling Counseling Services, we believe that it is important to treat the whole person: emotionally, physically, socially, intellectually, and spiritually. Counseling is part of a comprehensive plan to restore or improve your overall well-being or that of your loved ones.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with more than 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families who are facing emotional and behavioral difficulties. I work with each individual and family to find unique solutions to these difficulties. After undergraduate work at the University of Richmond (BS, 1988), I earned a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Since then, I have worked in both the public and private sectors, with a focus on children and adolescents. My clinical experience includes work with young people who are facing serious issues of life such as divorce, as well as with traumatized children and those diagnosed with ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Developmental Disorders, and Oppositional/Defiant Disorder.

Services
Counseling can provide the guidance and support that will help you through traumatic events and stressful periods in your life.
Many of us might try to cope with our stresses by using unhealthy coping mechanisms such as alcohol or drugs, smoking, or by abusing eating habits (too much or too little).
Instead of recognizing the stress or anxiety and learning ways to effectively adjust, these behaviors may make things worst, physically and mentally and can cause a cascade of additional issues by adding to your original "stressors."

Stribling Counseling Services uses a number of therapeutic approaches to help you through your crisis.
First and foremost, we talk with you to understand where you are before starting the counseling process.
Our approach is based on what will be the most effective for you as an individual.
To accomplish this, we use different types of therapies.
The purpose of this type of therapy is to help clients understand how they perceive, think about, react, and respond to their current situation.
Once we understand that, we help teach them new, healthy ways to handle it.

No matter what causes it, stress and emotional challenges are part of nearly everyone's life.
It can be something as "normal" as a work deadline or fixing dinner.
Sometimes however, prolonged stress or suddenly stressful and/or traumatic events can lead to a wide variety of reactions that can have a negative effect on both your state of mind and your body.

Human relationships are formed and built on shared understandings, compassion, trust and values.
Each person in a relationship depends on the other to both maintain, and develop, their initial sense of "togetherness".
With the ordinary challenges of life, over time, many couples come to feel they have lost that original "mission statement of togetherness".
We find that couples experiencing distress recover and grow when they learn and practice patterns of good communication.
In our practice we teach couples how to communicate in a "back to the basics" manner.

Children have unique stresses in their lives, caused not only by natural developmental phases but also by school, family difficulties, or even illness.
Many problems that effect adults, can also disrupt a child's behavior.
Each child comes with unique strengths and weaknesses.
Our counselors tailor their approach to fit each child by using one of or a combination of therapeutic styles.
Children often come to therapy confused and unsure of what is happening.
Their parents may have said they are going to see a "doctor" or someone to talk to.
