Hi my name is James Egidio the Founder and a Recovery Coach for RecoveryCoachingAlliance.org the First and Only Non-Profit Recovery Coaching Website.
This story I am about to tell you is my story.
It is a story with overtones and elements of Faith, Hope, Love, Forgiveness, Victories and Defeats, Good Choices and Bad Choices as well as a story of Restoration and Recovery.
I grew up in a modest lower middle class family where both parents worked full time to make ends meet.
I have a slightly younger sibling, Veronica Egidio (who I am very proud of, she is a school teacher for severely disabled children and holds a Master' as well as an advanced education degree in Education).
When it comes to addiction, no one ever chooses to become addicted nor are they ever prepared.
When it comes to addiction, no one ever chooses to become addicted nor are they ever prepared (not even family members or loved ones of the addicted individual).
In fact, in 2009 there was a staggering 23.5 million people ages 12 or older who needed treatment for illicit drug or alcohol abuse.
What's even more staggering is that up to 80% of the people in recovery will relapse within the first year.
Unfortunately, by the time the addicted individual does turn for help (treatment/recovery), it is usually too late, and it is mandated by the court system where treatment is institutional, bureaucratic, judgmental and "cold", leaving a bad impression for any and all treatment and recovery modalities (Therapy, Coaching, Counseling, Medical Care) for the addicted individual.
A Recovery Coach, also known as a Sober Coach, Sober Buddy, Recovery Manager, Sober Companion, Recovery Support Specialist, Family Recovery Coach, or a Virtual Recovery Coach, is a non-clinical professional who helps remove personal and environmental obstacles from the recovering client, and serves as a personal guide and mentor in the management of personal and family recovery.
Recovery Coach takes on a non-biased "Hands-On" approach by getting involved with the client to help find ways to stop addiction (abstinence) or reduce harm (harm reduction) associated with addictive behaviors.
Addiction is an ongoing battle with no cure.
However, with treatment, therapy, and a good support system, you can regain control of your life and find yourself on the path to recovery.
One of these support systems can be found in a recovery coach.
Recovery coaches are here to remove the barriers between you and recovery and provide the motivation and ongoing support needed to reach a place where you feel normalcy and comfort in your progress.
Real Life Experience While there's plenty to be gained from professional counseling and therapy over addiction, the most meaningful help you can get as.
Online counseling is a tool you can use throughout your recovery journey to help you overcome addiction.
At Recovery Coaching Alliance, our online substance abuse counseling provides several forms of support, one being information.
We feel it's important for you to understand your addiction in order to better defend yourself against future relapses.
One of the common questions we hear from addicts and their families is, "what is the difference between addiction and dependence?"
While the two sound similar, there are some very real differences.
