This is a thorough biopsychosocial/substance use information gathering process which will provide a clinical interpretation of that information, diagnosis if appropriate, and counseling, education or treatment recommendations.
If it is your intention to prove that you do not need the minimum required treatment, either because you have never had a problem with alcohol and/or other drugs, or that you had a problem in the past but have changed your lifestyle and there is no longer a problem, you will need to provide supporting evidence.
3. Five (5) letters supporting your self-reported alcohol and/or other drug use history from people you have known and see on a regular basis for at least the last two years.
People providing the letters must state what they have observed related to your substance use.
As a counselor I have heard these questions many times.
I believe the answer is both simple and encouraging.
The people who follow the directions are most likely to stay clean and sober and stop destructive, addictive/compulsive behaviors!
As with any illness, if you follow the doctor's orders you have an excellent chance of getting better.
If you do not follow the prescribed treatment relapse is probably in your future.
The problem is most people who want and/or need to be clean and sober do not want to follow the directions!
The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled.
For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.
Isn't it sad that so many people would rather settle in to a situation or relationship that is absolutely miserable rather than attempt change and face the risks and possibilities of the unknown.
Isn't it about time we stopped referring to the act of driving under the influece of alcohol or other drugs as "drunk driving"?
The intent of the law is to reduce the number of people who operate motor vehicles while "under the influence", i.e., "Driving Under the Influence", of an intoxicating substance thereby reducing the number of deaths and horrific injuries.
In some states this crime is actually referred to as "Driving While Impaired".
Being "under the influence", when doing anything that requires a high degree of focus and has potential danger, ranges from mild impairment to "drunk".
