Linda has been treating couples for the last 18 years. Linda is an author of the book "How to Get There From Here" a guide for Marriage and Family Therapist Interns.
She also wrote Safe. Happy. Loved. Simple Skills for Your Relationship, a guide to that helps couples fight less, understand each other better, and get what they want out of their relationship. You can also find useful relationship advice in the articles about relationships on Linda's blog.

This is a second career for me.
I used to be a journalist.
As a journalist, I used to cover people's stories, and I really enjoyed that aspect of helping people who were struggling to get some attention.
The only thing I couldn't do is really solve their problems.
So, that part became pretty frustrating for me.
As a therapist, what I get to do is really help people find a way to live a happier, fuller life.

I want to start with telling you why couples counseling is so valuable.
Most of the time, when two people love each other, they go into a relationship believing they're going to be happy, and they want that happiness.
Unfortunately, things happen that get in the way of both people feeling like they're understood, or loved, or like they don't feel alone.
Things like that can happen in a relationship when two people do love each other, but they can't communicate.

A good time to try couples counseling is when you have problems in the relationship that you don't attend to.
For instance, if one of the partners is rolling their eyes, saying "who cares, " shrugging their shoulders, or blaming the other, these are symptoms that something is wrong, and these are symptoms that don't heal or get better on their own.
What a couple has to learn is how to communicate in a different way, and those techniques can be learned in couples counseling.
