Welcome to Good Therapy San Diego, where our therapists integrate Western evidence-based techniques with Eastern healing methods to promote comprehensive well-being, addressing both mental and physical aspects. Our counselors are proficient in a range of evidence-based treatments tailored to your specific requirements. From Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Gottman Couple's Therapy to trauma-focused EMDR therapy, our practitioners utilize proven modalities suitable for individual, couples, and trauma therapy.
Individual therapy, counseling, or psychotherapy involves meeting with the therapist one-on-one. Some reasons you may seek individual therapy may include feelings of being trapped, distressed, or alone, constant worry, crisis/transition, depression, anxiety, recent divorce, low self-worth, body-image issues, past or present trauma, and lack of motivation or ability to change. If family members and friends cannot help you find the answers or these feelings are affecting your job, relationships, sleep, or eating habits, it may be time to seek help from a professional. The goal of psychotherapy is to enhance self-awareness, empower the client, work towards desired change, and work through challenging life issues. There's hope, we believe in you, and you deserve to be happy.
Marriage Counseling, also referred to as Couples Counseling, Couples Therapy, and Relationship Therapy, is a type of psychotherapy that centers on addressing relationship challenges and fostering growth. Its aim is to collaboratively pinpoint areas requiring improvement. These challenges may encompass poor communication, work-life imbalance, intimacy and emotional disconnection, infidelity/trust issues, financial strain, domestic conflicts, parenting struggles, mental health concerns, depression, and maladaptive stress coping mechanisms. Through collaborative efforts with the therapist, a tailored treatment plan is devised and implemented to reinvigorate your relationships. Ultimately, the goal is to alleviate distress and cultivate a healthier dynamic of mutual cooperation and affection.
Good Therapy San Diego utilizes an array of approaches and methods to aid children, adolescents, and teens coping with emotional or behavioral difficulties. Through avenues such as play, art, building, and role-playing, alongside communication, individuals can effectively communicate emotions and tackle challenges within therapy. Child and teen therapy serves multiple functions, providing emotional support, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, and novel problem-solving techniques. Furthermore, parents find considerable value in this assistance, gaining essential guidance for navigating the demanding and vital role of parenting, which lacks a definitive manual.

Catie Peters has been a valuable and inspirational therapist for me as I've been navigating a marital breakup after 28 years. She is intelligent, intuitive, caring and accepting, and takes the time to really HEAR me. She goes out of her way to schedule appointments when I need them, and regularly updates me if there is a cancellation. She suggests meaningful strategies to help me move forward. She is a gem!

Huge shout out for Laura! We came here about a year ago looking for help for my teenage daughter after having great experiences with marriage therapy as well here. Laura jumped in and helped my daughter with our crisis after we found her trying to harm her self, and struggling with depression. We Called Good Therapy and they had a great recommendation for Laura because they said she was great with kids.
They were not wrong and my daughter has been going in person as well as zoom for about a year. She is doing great today, and I can't think Laura enough for the work she did with, my beautiful girl. Thank you for your professionalism, compassion, and friendship. There is no greater gift.

I don't even know where to begin. Sean? SEAN? Best. Therapist. Ever. Hear me out. I went to Sean with practically ZERO confidence. I was anxious, lonely, self-loathing, and uncomfortable in my own skin and my own thoughts. My past was eating at me, and I was eating my past. I struggled with binge eating disorder for about 20 years, and Sean helped me turn it around almost immediately.
I've been desperate for the right kind of help for a long time, but every therapist I went to was monotonous, scripted, and spent the majority of the session typing notes. I was passed from one therapist to another over and over again, and I never found someone I could connect with. Then Sean came in, and he was fun, kind, compassionate, and this borderline telepathic brain wizard who had the ability to crawl into my psyche, pick out my fears, lay them before me, and analyze them while never leaving my side.
He didn't follow a prompt, he didn't type away at his computer while I disclosed sensitive information, and he didn't give me the same dumb, cookie cutter advice all the other therapists tossed my way. He was engaged the whole time, every single session. He challenged me and brought me out of my shell. Because of my wonderful therapy sessions with him, everything in my life is better.
I'm physically active (went from a couch potato to lifting couches lol), my marriage is better, my mind is calmer, and I'm a much more confident mother, friend, and artist. Oh, and I've been binge-free since February! If you're a potential client reading this, DUDE. TALK TO SEAN. If you're reading this Sean, thank you. Thank you for everything and more.

My 7 year old son has been treating with Sean in Encinitas for almost a year for anxiety. Sean was able to immediately relate to my son, assess the situation, and make a strong connection with him. It gives me so much peace of mind knowing that Sean is someone my son can talk to about his feelings especially since the pandemic began and everyone's lives got turned upside down. Sean is engaging, energetic, dynamic, positive, and frankly just a wonderful person.
He is also a great communicator and makes sure everyone is always on the same page with treatment. I feel really fortunate to have found Sean for my son and am very grateful to GTSD.

Such a fabulous staff! The gals at the front desk are welcoming and responsive and the waiting room feels comfortable and calming. There is water, books to read and even coloring books. I see Eli and I would truly recommend him 100%. He creates a safe space that is client led, and empowers you to realize your power and potential. I have seen more growth and breakthrough in 6 months with him than 2 years with another therapist. As someone who has experience in the psych field, he is truly so well suited for this job and is an incredible resource.

I've never left a review for anything before, but I'd like to thank Good Therapy San Diego for the work that they do. I started seeing Katie Brooks for some past trauma and I cannot thank her enough for getting me through it. She is truly incredible. Furthermore, this practice is raising money to offer free therapy for patients during COVID-19. These specialists are dedicated to helping their patients through any situation.

Dunya is an amazing relationship counselor. She openly listens in a very non judgmental atmosphere but also helps stimulate you and your partner's discussion with each other. This is a big thing for me, that a counselor doesn't just sit there and wait for you to say something, but actually contributes to the session often. She does a great job of that.
Her overall focus is the couple communicating back and forth to each other, (instead talking to her about the other person) and learning to communicate in a listening and empathetic manner.

Katie is kind, empathic and an exceptionally good listener. I started seeing Katie when I was stuck in a rut and she helped me to come out the other side better than ever. I wish that I had started therapy with Katie earlier because she really changed my life for the better. Katie has a very comforting and reassuring presence and I look forward to seeing her each session.
