There are many possible reasons to seek counseling. Sadness or stress caused by anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, grief, addictive behavior or other challenges can be overwhelming. When daily functioning becomes continually difficult, it may be time to get professional counseling. Choosing an appropriate therapist can be daunting, but it is also essential to your progress both in and out of the counseling office.

It is important to feel at ease with the counselor you choose so you can develop a collaborative and trusting relationship. For these reasons, I offer an initial consultation free of charge. After our meeting, I encourage you to listen to your intuition, and if for any reason you choose to continue your search, I will be happy to refer you to another professional colleague that I believe will be suitable for you.

The benefits of effective counseling are many. The process allows for greater insight and self-awareness. Consequently, thoughtful decisions are able to be made that are beneficial to your personal well-being and mental health.

Addiction can be thought of as a condition of the body.
The body requires a drug or substance to avoid psychological or physical withdrawal symptoms.
Addiction starts with a stage known as dependence.
Physiological dependence is a body adjustment to a substance.
The substance becomes a part of a "normal" state of functioning for the body.
Over time, the body enters a stage of tolerance.
The body begins to adapt to the constant use of a substance and lessens the effect.
An individual will begin to consume larger doses of the drug to achieve similar effects at the beginning of use.
There is a strong connection between our mental and physical health.
Thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are constantly affected by our emotional and physical states.
This natural process is commonly referred to as the "mind-body connection".
Emotional health directly influences our general mood and outlook on life.
Emotionally healthy people see themselves as capable of succeeding.
Their self-esteem is high, and they consistently have an optimistic and energetic attitude.
Healthy habits and lifestyles create an emotionally healthy person.
