If you are looking for individual counseling or couples/relationship counseling, you've come to the right place. You have made it here because you might be looking for a shift in your life-perhaps a change in your mental, emotional, or relational well-being. I'm grateful that you are considering working with me to help bring more awareness, connection, and meaning into your life and your relationships.
Group therapy can be one of the best forms of treatment for many common concerns. I have extensive experience in developing and leading trainings for groups, including clinicians. I also occasionally create outings with a particular focus. At the foundation of my therapeutic work is a belief that the answers you are searching for are already within you.
My job is to help you dig them out. I pull primarily from relational, Gestalt, attachment-based, and insight-oriented approaches in my work. Though this lends itself to longer-term therapeutic exploration, I also have significant experience in short-term, solution-focused counseling.

Services
I work with couples and relationships of all types, though I specialize in working with queer relationships, including those in relationships in which at least one partner is non-cisgender.
I do not limit my practice to traditionally paired couples and work with folks in non-traditional, non-monogamous, open, poly, and other relationship constellations.
I am informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), developed by Sue Johnson.
EFT is a collaborative approach informed by attachment science and theory that allows you to attune to yours and each other's emotions, recognize patterns, and reorganize your patterned responses to be ones of mutual connection and benefit.

I work with people aged 14+ on anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and issues of meaning-making and purpose.
I have particular expertise in family-of-origin issues and working with folks from the queer/LGB+ and trans populations.
I am committed to providing socioculturally conscious counseling, which means that I work to explore intersecting elements of identity and how they play into our relationship together.
This means that I also actively check my own awareness, assumptions, and understanding of our overlapping and diverging identities in the therapeutic dyad.

I have experience leading groups of many types.
If the idea of group therapy sounds scary for you, talk to me about it; I can walk you through the process.
Likely, group would be perfect for you.
I engage in experiential, present-centered processes during group.
This means that we will learn how to engage more with ourselves and others through developing in-the-moment emotional, physical, and cognitive awareness.
I pull predominantly from Irvin Yalom's work in groups as well as Gestalt and Psychodrama approaches.

I started Pinewood Counseling after a brief stint in academia.
It was during that brief period that I began to recognize how much I value community-based, person-to-person connection.
It is my hope that I can transfer that value to this work, in order to help folks live more meaningful, connected, conscientious lives.
I graduated from Western Carolina University in 2015 with a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
I've worked for five years in college and university counseling centers, developing a passion for group work, intrapersonal work, and creating relationships with many people.
