I'm John Ballew and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor. My passion is helping people build happier lives and stronger relationships. It is my joy to provide a safe space to work with all sorts of people; my style is engaged, supportive and nonjudgmental. I've been a professional counselor in private practice Atlanta for more than 25 years. My approach to counseling is engaged, nonjudgmental and compassionate.

One of the great things about being in Atlanta is being a counselor a very diverse community. My clients are busy professionals, people of varied ethnic and racial backgrounds, LGBTQ men and women and clients from age 18 to 80 or more. Effective counseling starts with talking about your goals. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to emotional health.

Good therapy goes beyond just listening and support. It helps people gain greater self-understanding and works to create the changes that make life better. Whether you've worked with a therapist before or are exploring counseling for the first time, you probably have questions.
Services
I know it isn't always easy to ask for help.
While some of the people who become my clients have worked with other therapists in the past, many others are working with a counselor for the first time.
I'll help to demystify the process so we can work comfortably together.
1 in 5 Americans experience the hopelessness or unhappiness that comes from depression and anxiety.
I help clients overcome old patterns and move toward a more fulfilling life.
Sometimes we need help getting unstuck in life.
Feeling a bit lost or trapped in unproductive patterns?
Perhaps your relationship has been struggling for a while now.
Maybe arguments have become more frequent, or intimacy has become less so.
You've thought about getting help more than once, but you keep hoping things will get better on their own.
Or the thought of couples counseling just seems too intimidating.
But now the problems have gotten hard to ignore.
You've thought about leaving - or your partner has talked about it.
You've decided it's time to take action.
Couples sometimes wonder "Does couples counseling actually work?"
Why do many gay, lesbian or bi people work with an LGBTQ counseling professional when it is time to get help?
Regrettably, not all therapists work comfortably with gay clients.
And they may not be familiar with the details of life for gay people.
As a result it may be easier to talk to an LGBTQ counselor.
Much the same as other people, LGBTQ people experience anxiety, depression or relationship problems.
And LGBTQ people can confront special life stressors.
Family, dating and relationships.
