Mahala graduated from Oglala Lakota College in 2006 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Human Services and Counseling. In 2011, she graduated with honors from South Dakota State University with a Masters of Science Degree in Counseling.
Over the years Mahala has worked with diverse populations addressing issues of intimate partner violence, chronic and terminal illness, suicide prevention and crisis care, incarceration and reintegration into community, and provided cultural communication training in non-profit, private and governmental organizations.Her work in human services has fueled a passion to offer counseling services focused on empowerment and creativity.
She integrates cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and narrative therapy to offer individualized, respectful care for adults, adolescents, and families.
