Are you stressed and overwhelmed? Are you plagued by a sense that you're not getting where you want to be in your life? Feeling stuck? Or perhaps you are dealing with changes-such as the death of a loved one, a serious illness, loss of a relationship, a career change (or the need of one!), or simply the challenges of aging-that have you struggling to cope?

The skills you learn in therapy can benefit you your whole life. I will teach you new ways to approach old (and new) problems. I will help you focus on what's important and shed unnecessary ways of thinking, making room for growth and new possibility. My name is Lisa Turetsky and I am a licensed psychotherapist. Clients are not just "customers" to me.

When I accept a new client, I become committed to that person's well-being, and I bring my whole self to the process. I have been a therapist for 14 years (after a career in the performing arts), during which I have helped people with family and relationship problems, stress and overwhelm, harsh inner critic, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, and all kinds of emotional and spiritual quandaries.
Services
I feel guilty when I need to take a break, go to the gym, take a nap, or do something fun.
This is what it's like to live with a harsh "inner critic."
In this state of mind, you never really relax.
Whatever you accomplish, it is never enough.
There is always that critical voice tearing you down, pointing out your failures, telling you that others judge you and find you lacking.
This constant criticism sours relationships, interferes with enjoyment, and promotes depression and anxiety.
I help people learn to quiet the judgments of an over-active inner critic.
If I want to do one thing and my partner wants to do another, we always do it his/her way.
I've been in relationships like this before but I keep telling myself this time it's going to be different.
If this is what you're experiencing, I'll help you take a look at your relationship and see whether it's possible to turn things around.
We'll look at the difference between what feels right and what just feels familiar.
If it looks like it might be possible to turn things around, we'll talk about specific ways to bring about change.
Are you in so much pain that you doubt that you could be understood, accepted, or helped?.
Have you been so burned by the pain of past losses-old or new-that you don't know if seeking love and connection again is even worth it?.
Are your feelings complicated by anger, rage, or guilt (this is often the case when there has been a suicide or betrayal)?.
Grief is the natural human response to loss.
Losing someone or something we love hurts, and the way we get through that hurt is by allowing ourselves to grieve.
Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed, flooded with fear, anger, or other intense emotions that seem to come out of nowhere?
Do you have trouble sleeping, have intrusive thoughts or memories, or find yourself avoiding certain places, people, or situations?
Many people who have been through a traumatic experience (either a one-time experience, like an accident, or longer-term, ongoing trauma) have such symptoms, and they are unpleasant but not unnatural.
They are the result of the intense emotions stirred up by trauma, which linger when the trauma has not been adequately resolved or processed.
