We implement effective psychotherapy methods to instill self-understanding among patients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and caretaker alike.

But in the end, making small changes to self-defeating behavior and coping with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results.

The name Michelangelo is not customarily associated with psychotherapeutic concerns.
I do, however, believe his famous quote regarding the work of art being "present" in the stone aptly fits the philosophy that some psychotherapists endorse.
I am one such therapist.
While individuals and various relationship patterns at times are not able to successfully demonstrate viable insight and functional behavioral commitments, at least the "potential" for such is most often inherent in these individuals.
Shannon is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor with over 20 years of professional experience.
Her therapy style is strongly influenced by cognitive-behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy, but she finds it helpful to adapt counseling approaches to fit the unique needs of clients.
When treating PTSD, she typically utilizes the Cognitive Processing Therapy model, which is a cognitive-behavioral based therapy with strong research proving its effectiveness with helping people recover from PTSD.
Briefly stated, I think I am a bright, caring, and sensitive person.
I have over 40 years of experience including work with people of varied ethnic backgrounds and issues- in a mental health center, a family counseling agency, and in private practice.
I see individuals, couples, and families.
What I offer as a therapist is genuine concern, acceptance, and a safe place to work through issues without judgement.
I take an active role in therapy, and am more than a passive listener.
I encourage self-care such as diet, exercise, and mindfulness.

Couples counseling is a process through which a couple, whether engaged, dating, married, or partnered, works with one of our therapists to identify specific areas of conflict and/or aspects of their relationship they would like to change.
The couple is then given the opportunity to develop a plan of action to improve each individual's satisfaction and contentment.
Working with one of our therapists in a safe and confidential setting, couples are able to explore how their individual backgrounds, beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors may be impacting their relationship both positively and negatively.
