At Hope Tree, we believe that healing is possible for all people. Through providing holistic, compassionate, ecosystemic counseling services for people throughout all seasons of life, we strive to mend the whole person. Our services include animal and nature therapeutics, trauma informed care, play therapy, EMDR, and drama based therapies. Hope Tree offers clients at both of our locations the opportunity to receive sessions in nature, in the presence of animals, and/or in our offices.

All Hope Tree therapists have a Masters or Ph. D. degree in counseling or social work and are state-licensed. In addition to a full range of traditional and foundational therapy options, we offer play therapy and animal-assisted and nature-assisted therapies. Medicaid and most private insurance accepted. We are currently welcoming new clients.
Services
Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) involves caring for or spending time with an animal during a goal-oriented therapy session.
These goals can be physical, emotional, educational and/or psychological; AAT is used to complement the benefits of traditional therapy.
Equine Assisted Mental Health or Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is the combined use of horses, a licensed therapist, and a horse specialist working with clients to address various individual psychotherapy treatment goals.
EAMH is a form of AAT.
Play therapy is based upon the fact that play is the child's natural medium of self-expression.
It is an opportunity which is given to the child to 'play out' his feelings and problems just as, in certain types of adult therapy, an individual 'talks out' his difficulties.
At Hope Tree, we use play therapy with child clients under the age of 11.
We have playrooms at both of our locations which are dedicated as the therapy space for children.
Play therapy is a method developed by Virginia Axline, an associate of the famed Carl Rogers who developed client centered therapy.
For thousands of years, humans have coexisted with nature and animals on this earth.
We have an inherent deep need to have this connection, to be in the presence of nature and animals.
This promotes optimal physical and mental health.
Without this contact, we can become diminished.
At Hope Tree, we use holistic therapies which include animals and nature to assist in the healing process.
These therapies include Nature Assisted Therapy (NAT), Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT), and specifically at our Hastings location, Equine Assisted Mental Health (EAMH).
Our office is situated on ten acres in the historic Canfield Lumberyard site which is conveniently located in central Waterloo and easily accessible by car or public transportation.
We have a restored office building, a large barn, three large grassy yards, and a six-acre pasture.
We have room to roam and wander outside or sit inside our comfy office for your sessions.
