My practice consists of treating children, adolescents, adults and couples, some of whom are struggling with issues such as divorce, bereavement, anxiety, depression, infidelity, and addictions. My office space consists of not only a comfortable place for adults and adolescents, but also a separate playroom to incorporate play therapy for children.
I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing psychotherapy for over 25 years in Huntington, New York. I started my professional learning at Temple University, where I obtained my Masters in Social Work. After completing this I went on to obtain my credentials in substance abuse counseling (CASAC) in order to further my skills to help my patients impacted by addiction.
My extensive training and experience in this area has led me to specialized work with children and their parents. During my work with families I sought out addition education at The William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis & Psychology, a respected psychoanalytic training and treatment center.

The goal of therapy with children is for the child to become more comfortable and content, less anxious, and better able to deal with everyday stresses.
Feelings of frustration, anger, and unhappy relationships with other children, family members and people in general are often reasons children come to therapy.
Added to the inevitability of the typical hurdles of simply growing up, many children are often dealing with more complex issues such as divorce, blended families, domestic or sexual abuse, bullying, economic instability, trauma, death of a loved one, learning disabilities, and other neurological and psychiatric issues.

Over the past 25 years I have worked with countless couples that come to my practice for help with their marriages.
In my work with children and adolescents, couple work was a natural trajectory because of the necessity to work with parents when their children are my clients.
Many parents often began to recognize that the marriage was the source of many of their children's issues and made the decision to work on the marriage so they could be better parents.
In order to most effectively help the couples in my practice, I began my training with Stan Tatkin, whose work brings to light an effective way of working with couples.

In order to ensure the highest standard of care of my patients, I collaborate regularly with other mental health professionals in the community as well as connecting to school personnel, and referral sources as needed.

I have a private confidential voice mail system so please feel free to leave a detailed message when calling.
Please note that cell phone messages can be unclear.
For new clients, I reserve extra time for initial phone contact, so please be patient, as I will return your call in a timely fashion.
I am required by law, as a mandated reporter by the State of New York, to report any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
For couple sessions, I require a 48-hour cancellation notice, due to the length of the sessions and to avoid being charged for the session.

All individual sessions are 50 minutes in length.
I encourage all potential clients to think about the first session as a consultation in order to explore whether or not they feel that we are a "good fit".
This enables individuals to have an honest and open discussion about what they are seeking in terms of treatment and how they feel in the first session.
My first session with a couple is 3 hours in length.
Follow up sessions are typically between 1 1/2- 2 hours in length.
The couple sessions are more time intensive and less frequent depending on each individual couple and their presenting issues.
