At Partners in Counseling, we are private practice psychotherapists, committed to providing the most innovative and individualized treatment, using the latest research on evidenced-based practice. We are passionate about our work and believe that successful counseling integrates scientifically valid best practices with skilled, compassionate and respectful attention to individual needs.
We believe that better understanding of and managing one's emotions leads to an improved quality of life, filled with greater flexibility, more choices and less self-destructive behavior. Living with emotional and behavioral dysregulation is painful. We understand that all too well. We also know that with hard work and commitment, things can improve.
Contacting us is the first step. Treatment begins with an in-depth assessment or intake, where we will get to know you, your history, presenting concerns all to determine the best, individualized course of treatment. During this intake session we will ask you to complete specific assessment screens or forms and have a detailed conversation that helps us identify your specific needs.

We are part of one of the few intensively-trained, non-hospital based, DBT teams in New Jersey: DBT Consultants for Eating Disorders.
We received our training from Behavioral Tech, Inc., the company started by Marsha Linehan, the developer of DBT treatment.
DBT blends cognitive behavioral strategies designed to promote change with mindfulness practices designed to promote acceptance along with a dialectical perspective that helps expand our lens on life and allow for greater flexibility and happiness.

Because eating disorders are life threatening diseases, we use treatment methods supported by research showing the strongest evidence for effective results.
The most compassionate care is treatment that works.
We won't provide anything less - it's what you should demand.
We take a team approach to treatment that fights the disease and supports the individual using behavioral therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - Enhanced (CBT-e), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Maudsley or Family Based Therapy (FBT), nutritional support and referral to a network of medical and psychiatric treatment providers.

Families are unique social systems, with their own set of relational patterns, dynamics, roles and expectations.
Regardless of the origin of a problem - whether it started with one individual or the family system as a whole - we know from research and experience that involving families in the solution is almost always beneficial.
People cannot simply be understood in isolation, but rather as parts of a whole.
By working with families to identify problems, improve communication, resolve conflict and promote mindfulness skills to help regulate strong emotions and reactions, families can heal and solutions can be found.
