At Be You Counseling, I offer a holistic interactive form of psychotherapy that focuses on the total person, recognizing the unity of the mind and body. Together we will bring awareness to your mind-body system and gain insight into who you are now, how you got here, and how these thoughts and feelings support and/or hold you back from speaking, expressing, and creating the life you desire.
You will be encouraged to speak honestly about your thoughts and feelings, supported to express authentically those inner experiences that cannot be explained with words, and empowered to create consciously the life you desire. Together we will work to develop a course of treatment that will assist you on your journey as you navigate depressed and anxious feelings, personal and professional relationships, life transitions, childhood trauma, family planning, and parenting to name a few.
I will support you in learning how to LOVE and be LOVED for being YOU. Darwin states, "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."

Services
My approach is humanistic.
I view people as a whole system that is capable of growing, healing, and finding fulfillment and wisdom from within.
I do not like to categorize or diagnose people into groups based on similar characteristics.
Although I believe in a practice supported by research and theory, my ultimate interest is in understanding who you are now, how you got here, and who you want to be.
When I sit with a client, I look for the person they are presenting to the world, while remaining curious about the parts of them that hide in the background.

Awareness counseling is a conscious, controlled process that directs our attention inward to observe without judgment our current behaviors, thoughts, and emotions.
We become an active observer on how we exist in the world, how the world influences us, and how past experiences parallel and influence our present day experiences.
Parallels exist more often than we know and impact the quality of our personal and professional relationships.
Our past, no matter how far away we are from it, is part of our story, and when past events are left unresolved they magnify our present day experiences.

Are you often overcome by feelings of sadness?
Are you tired of feeling alone?
Are you more irritable than you used to be? Do you experience feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness that are hard to ignore?
Perhaps the negative voice inside your head won't stay quiet.
Does it talk you out of taking action in your life?
It may criticize your work, lifestyle, or choices in a way that you find hard to refute.
Maybe you've started to second-guess yourself or avoid responsibility because you worry it'll end poorly.

Do you long to find a good relationship but have had trouble meeting people?
Do you worry that you might just be settling for someone instead of finding the 'right' person?
Perhaps you are uncertain whether things will work out between you and another person, and this has made it difficult for you to seek out relationships.
It could be that you have trouble maintaining relationships once they've started.
Have you found yourself in several toxic relationships in the past and wonder why this keeps happening?

Traditionally, therapy is centered around talking about thoughts and feelings, using words to describe these experiences.
The challenge with words is that they do not completely capture the depths of your inner emotional experience.
Words alone are restricting, limited, and have the potential to leave you frustrated and in pain emotionally and physically.
In many cases words are used to defend against having feelings.
As a result, they manifest physically (headaches, stomach aches, back pain, chest pain, etc.), or in the form of anxiety, depression, acting out, or self destructive behavior.
