Because I believe that therapy is about our mind, our body, our emotions and our spirit, I have studied a wide array of body-focused practices in addition to my traditional training in talk psychotherapy.

We all want to live our lives with relative ease, feeling strong and confident in ourselves, knowing we can manage whatever stress shows up in our lives on any given day.
We want our relationships to be safe and satisfying.
We want our work to have meaning and our lives in general to have purpose and be fulfilling.
We want to be honest and authentic, and we want to live our lives in a healthy, balanced way.
But sometimes, life being life, we find ourselves struggling in one, or a few, of these areas.

I am a body-focused psychotherapist who integrates body, mind and emotions into the healing process.
I combine traditional talk psychotherapy with a body-focused approach.
I believe that the body is intricately linked to our thoughts and to our feelings.
Because they are interwoven, the body cannot be ignored or left out of the healing process.
If you would like to better understand this connection and how this process works, please keep reading.
But it is often not enough because our minds can do only part of the healing.

When we experience stress, distress or trauma, our bodies respond with a fight, flight or freeze response.
We fight for our lives, we flee to safety, or we freeze until it is over.
Our bodies can get stuck in these high levels of arousal, especially when the "danger" is repetitive or traumatic.
We learn to live in a ready state to fight, flee or freeze.
This "ready state" gets stored in our body and becomes our "new normal."
In order for trauma to be healed, it must be attended to on all levels - body, mind, emotions and spirit.

In talk psychotherapy you tell your story to someone who, with wisdom and a compassionate ear, can help you sort things out.
You identify old beliefs, feelings and behaviors that are not working for you.
Once you see these old patterns more clearly, it is easier to stop yourself from repeating them.
You are more awake and conscious.
You then can decide what new beliefs, feelings and behaviors you would like to replace them with, ones that feel more in alignment with who you really are and how you really want to be in the world.
