Other background education and work experience include early childhood development, at-risk youth, and the foster care system.
I have worked in a variety of settings with adults and youth.
As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional through the International Association of Trauma Professionals, I have particular expertise in assisting people coping with post-traumatic stress.
I have extensive training in several evidence-informed models of intervention specifically focused on assisting survivors of complex trauma such as abuse and neglect.
Being able to address problems without fear of judgment, betrayal, argument, defensiveness, or ridicule is important.
Nearly everyone wants to feel supported, validated, understood, and even challenged at times.
This helps people feel safe, confident, and more capable of solving problems, making decisions, resolving conflict, and more importantly, living a life that is meaningful and satisfying.
Living life in a way that honors who you are and who may still become, regardless of what you have been through is possible.
Families commonly experience difficulties related to a variety of stressors associated with school, childhood development, stages of life, relocating, parenting, marriage, divorce, mental illness, grief and loss, among other things.
We provide support to parents and children encountering a number of challenges.
Individual therapy is available as well as family therapy sessions.
We provide one-on-one time with your child or teen in order to develop a therapeutic relationship with them that allows them to process and work through problems independently.
Anxiety is something everyone experiences.
We typically experience normal levels of anxiety to avoid dangerous situations or to motivate us to solve everyday problems that cause stress.
People experience anxiety in various ways ranging from mild worry to intense panic attacks.
Some people experience anxiety for a matter of minutes, while other experience it for years.
Healthy anxiety differs from an anxiety disorder.
Anxiety disorders are more intense, longer lasting, and interfere with your ability to function at work or school, in relationships, or in other daily living activities.
Sadness is a normal feeling we all experience, especially when we encounter upsetting situations.
Most of the time we cope with these sad feelings, we eventually begin to feel better, and we are able to recover from the event without treatment.
Depression is different from sadness related to grief and loss or a temporarily upsetting event.
When people experience depression nearly every day, for at least two weeks, and have significant symptoms, they may meet criteria for a clinical diagnosis.
Major Depressive Disorder (most often referred to as major depression or clinical depression) is a mood disorder that can affect emotions, thoughts, behavior, and physical well-being, making it difficult to perform daily living activities, to fulfill everyday responsibilities, and to have satisfying relationships with others.
