If love was all that was necessary for a long and happy marriage, the divorce rate would not be so high. Couples need to have the right tools, and know how to use them, to keep their relationship together when the going isn't quite so smooth. With my marriage counseling and coaching, I teach couples the Five Secrets to a Happily Ever After and help them beat the marriage odds.

Now your marriage is routine and sometimes painful. The joy you used to feel with your partner has been replaced with hurt and indifference. You have talked about the relationship, left it alone, sought help from friends and family and nothing seems to be getting any better. You feel like you have tried everything you know how to do but it all seems hopeless.

This sense of frustration and despair about the marriage may even be leading to thoughts of separation or divorce. There is another way through marriage counseling and coaching. The truth is that all relationships have their ups and downs. Marriages, like children, have developmental stages.

Marriage and Family Therapy is a recognized field in psychotherapy.
It was developed more than fifty years ago by psychologists and psychiatrists working with individuals with mental illness and their families.
It is a holistic approach to therapy that looks at the context of a person's life and relationships, as well as what current issues the person may be dealing with.
This is called a "systems" approach.
Marriage and Family Therapists help people respond to life's changes by helping them explore their current circumstances and work with them to reach their goals.
Lesli Doares is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
She received her M.S. in Psychology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1991.
She has pursued further postgraduate and clinical work in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at East Carolina University.
Lesli has provided psychotherapy services in the Triangle for the last few years.
She has worked with women and children affected by domestic violence and sexual assault with Interact, a non-profit agency in Raleigh.
Lesli also was an in-patient intern with Cancer Patient Support at Duke Hospital in Durham.
Lesli clearly wrote this book not in response to a fix-it problem in marriage, but in order to be proactive.
Being proactive means doing what is important to build a solid foundation and she shares a lot of wisdom and secrets about how to make and keep the love and marriage strong.
I recommend this book as a wedding or anniversary gift and for those who like to seek improvement and fulfillment in marriage.
Love is a necessary but not sufficient factor in achieving the "happily ever after" most of us hope for when we marry.
