If you're visiting my website, you're thinking about whether things in your life really need to be as hard as they are. Perhaps you aren't sleeping well. Maybe your relationships are suffering. You might be tired of living a life of filled with anxiety. Or maybe you just want someone to talk through some things with. I am that therapist. I won't just sit quietly and nod, I will work with you to make things better.

I will partner with you to work on the things you want to change. We don't have to talk about your childhood (unless you want to) we can talk about what is happening in your life right now. I want you to be able to laugh in session along with talking about the tough stuff. If you are ready to make changes then contact me today to discuss how I might best help you.

In order to best fit your needs, I offer both short and long-term counseling along with EMDR therapy. I have moved to a tele-health only model. I will no longer be providing in person services. I use EMDR with many of my clients.
Services
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a graduate of Rutgers University School of Social Work in New Jersey.
For 10 years I practiced as a social worker in a variety of settings including a program for pregnant teens, a homeless shelter, and a supportive housing facility.
As a social worker, I have the experience of actively helping clients to solve their problems.
Since 2001 I have had a private practice first in San Francisco and since 2011 in Albany.
My new office space is in Berkeley, CA.
Are you feeling depressed, having problems sleeping, or having flashbacks of the loss?
Do you feel like no one understands your grief?
Do you find yourself not talking to friends about your loss because no one seems to understand?
If you are you may benefit from counseling for grief or loss.
Grief is defined as a reaction to a major loss which is usually experienced as a painful and unhappy emotion.
But as anyone who has grieved knows, it is a not just a reaction but a process that takes a substantial amount of time and energy and almost always goes on longer than most people expect.
The symptoms of anxiety can be both terrifying and overwhelming.
Many people report feeling like they are having a heart attack.
You may have difficulty sleeping because thoughts are constantly running through your mind.
You may find yourself worrying about things that you know are irrational.
I specialize in helping people learn how to stop anxiety from ruling their lives.
Although it may not feel like it right now, anxiety is actually quite treatable.
Learning more about the nature and origins or your anxiety can make an enormous difference.
The most important aspect of trauma therapy is for you to be in a safe relationship with a compassionate therapist.
While EMDR therapy can be effective for resolving trauma symptoms you also need space for addressing other emotions such as grief and anger.
Everyone's recovery from trauma is different so we will work on both helping you develop skills and providing you with safety.
I practice using a phase based treatment which starts with stabilization.
This means you don't have to worry about talking about your past traumas we will work with your symptoms and help you build the capacity to think and feel at the same time so that trauma work does not cause you to become de-stabilized or feel out of control.
Are you transgender but want therapy for other problems and need a therapist you don't need to train in gender issues?.
I provide transgender and queer affirming therapy for my clients.
I have a strong commitment, and many years of experience, helping people who are struggling with their gender identity.
Working with people with gender identity issues is a priority for me and in my practice, I see many such clients.
I work with people no matter where they are in their process.
I allow you to define your gender identity in the way that best fits you, not the way society says you should be.
