The decision to enter into therapy is a courageous and often-times complex one. I work from a core belief that we all deserve a life that is fulfilling, enriching, empowered and allows for connection and relationship. Therapy can be a useful tool for gaining self-awareness, increasing self-esteem, managing stress, and getting support through challenging life transitions.
Therapy offers effective ways of learning to cope with difficult emotions and the impact of trauma and can help to build strong family relationships and attachments. This involves learning to recognize and identify patterns in our life that no longer serve us and create a sense of shame and disconnection from ourselves and others. I view therapy as a collaborative process and will partner with you in identifying your personal and/or family goals.
I provide individual psychotherapy for adolescents (14-18 years of age) and adults and I also offer family therapy. I strive to provide a warm, safe, non-judgmental, strengths-based, culturally sensitive therapeutic environment.

Services
I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, and specialize in therapy with adolescents and adults impacted by trauma and wanting to explore issues around identity and intersectionality.
I also work with families looking for better connection and wanting to address the impact of inter-generational trauma.
I am passionate in providing culturally responsive and trauma-informed therapy which centers on an awareness of the complex impact trauma (any perceived trauma) has on a person's efforts to cope and navigate the world.

Individual therapy offers a unique opportunity to explore issues, challenges, and concerns in a safe, supportive, confidential and non-judgmental environment.
In individual therapy, we often work on identifying patterns of behavior that might be causing stress and emotional pain which hinders personal growth and fulfillment.
An integral part of how I work is exploring the connection and interplay between thoughts, feelings, body sensations and behavior.
I will work interactively and collaboratively with you to set goals and will integrate different treatment approaches based on your needs, situations, and desires.

Families are varied and complex.
Some are biologically related, some are "blended" or "step-families" and some families come together by choice through adoption.
While family life can be rewarding and a source of joy and support, it can at times, be challenging.
When families experience difficulty, family therapy can help strengthen communication among family members, redefine healthy roles, decrease conflict and restore healthy boundaries to promote individual and family functioning.
In family therapy, I work with families to help them to better understand the issues that have brought them into therapy.

Stress responses are part of our natural fight, flight, or freeze instincts.
When distress from a disturbing event remains, the upsetting images, thoughts, and emotions may create feelings of overwhelm, of being back in that moment, or of being "frozen in time."
EMDR is a mind-body technique that aims to transition upsetting (often labeled traumatic, distressing, or disturbing) memories or experiences from that "frozen in time" point to a more integrated and positive or neutral place and is used to process disturbing memories that contribute to unexplained fears and self-defeating beliefs and behaviors.
