ICP+P strives to be an anti-racist and inclusionary organization. We are actively and thoughtfully working on making this an ongoing and permanent part of our internal structure. We seek people who bring diverse backgrounds and perspectives to join us in this work and are highly motivated to understand and change the way systemic racism has impacted the world, our community, our organization and our professional identities.
The Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis (ICP+P), created a series of conferences, the Relational Perspective Institute (RPI) over four weekends in 2009-2010. This project was inspired by the recognition of a fundamental paradigm shift in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy from Freud's drive structure theories and toward a set of perspectives that place human relationships and relational needs at the center of psychoanalytic theory and practice.
In the original RPI, the foundations of relational theory and practice were described by five luminary thinkers from the relational field.

Our organizational culture embodies what we teach - in how we act as clinicians, as teachers, as peer consultants, as committee members, and as administrators.
We believe that interactions between people are constructed jointly by the participants.
That each person brings to the moment his, her, or their respective explicit and implicit processes.
We recognize the mutual influence and regulation in personal and clinical engagements.
In order to understand and promote growth, we value being open to knowing ourselves, being empathic with others, and developing a collaborative and honest experience.

The CAPP program is a 2-year clinical training program specifically focused on the values, attitudes and listening perspectives of clinicians who operate from Self Psychological and Relational orientations.
Self-reflection, personal growth and the capacity for critical thinking are the building blocks of the CAPP program.
CAPP, embedded in the facilitating environment of the ICP+P community, is designed to provide a training experience that captures the excitement, creativity, and diversity fundamental to these perspectives.

Our psychoanalytic training program is designed to engage our candidates in an educational process that brings alive the excitement, creativity, and diversity of contemporary psychoanalytic approaches.
This includes the study of psychoanalytic thought and therapeutic action through the examination of various theoretical models and their historical contexts, interweaving the study of race, gender, and sexual orientation through various psychoanalytic lenses.
