According to Jon Kabat-Zinn, a leading teacher and researcher in the field of Mindfulness, mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment without judgement.
Essentially, mindfulness is a practice that helps us develop awareness of our internal world of thoughts, feelings and sensations and teaches us how to observe these with openness.
This is a subtle, but powerful awareness and helps us to create space between thought-impulse and reaction.
Mindfulness based therapies often teach meditation as a basic skill for cultivating compassion within yourself and to learn to move through life's challenges and transitions with grace and ease.
We teach couples Mindfulness Based Relationship Skills as a part of Couples Counseling to help facilitate connection, kindness, compassion and forgiveness.
These are simple techniques that can help transform conflict into connection and bring more clarity, love, happiness into your relationship.
We also teach mindfulness mediation to those couples that are interested.

When do you use EXA?
Expressive Arts Therapy is always an option depending on your interest.
This type of therapy can be particularly helpful if you feel stuck about a particular issue, if you find that you talk around and around in circles, always arriving at the same place or analyze a situation over and over but cannot find "the answer."
When we can get out of "thinking mode, " it allows space for our deeper wisdom to arrive.
This can be useful at times when clients are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just don't have the words to express what they are feeling.
