We all experience challenges in our lives that make us feel stuck and alone. This is an inevitable part of being human. Psychotherapy helps us understand more clearly what's going on in our lives. It helps us to develop new tools and perspectives about ourselves and the relationships we care about so that we can make better decisions, strive for and achieve personal goals, and find an inner sense of peace and wellbeing.

My approach to therapy is warm, caring, and straight-forward. I have worked as a psychologist in my Carlsbad private practice for over 20 years and I am fortunate to genuinely love what I do. I have worked with adults on a wide range of issues, and mainly specialize in treating depression, anxiety, relationships, stress, grief, and loss. I have extensive training in a variety of effective approaches and will tailor a treatment plan designed to support your unique needs.

I am often asked what the experience of therapy is like. My honest response is that I think it is a very personal and different experience for everyone.

Depression is a very common and devastating condition.
It's a mood disorder that often causes persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest in people and things that normally bring joy.
It changes your outlook on life and effects how you think, feel, behave and relate to others.
When depressed you may struggle with doing day-to-day activities and may feel overwhelmed and hopeless.
Depression is a serious condition and not just the blues.
When feeling depressed, it is a good time to reach out and call a therapist.
Worrying is a natural reaction to life's stressful moments.
For some people however, their anxiety is so severe and persistent, they cannot stop the worry.
The anxiety interferes with their ability to work, connect with others and even their health.
That is when it is a good time to reach out and call a therapist.
The good news is that anxiety is treatable.
There are a variety of therapeutic approaches and we can work together to see which approach works best for you.
Some of the approaches I utilize in my practice include psycho-education, cognitive-behavioral therapy, mind-body techniques and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Throughout our lives we all experience grief and loss.
It is inevitable and yet it feels so overwhelming and lonely.
We often have few tools to deal with the emotions accompanying the loss and few tools to manage the changes in our lives that result from the loss.
Whether you are grieving the loss of a loved one, a pet, career, relationship or a life transition, learn to stay connected and process your loss.
I can help you learn to cope with your situation in a warm, caring and supportive environment.
My approach to couples therapy is to work with an individual member of the couple.
Often times when relationships are strained and conflictual, it is better to work one on one with the therapist confidentially, before talking with your significant other.
By doing so, you can resolve some of your own issues that impact the relationship and grow to understand your spouse/partner in the safety and privacy of the therapist's office.
With the use of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, we can identify the underlying couple dynamics and create change.
PMDD is not your regular PMS.
This serious condition creates marked distress that interferes with your daily life, work and relationships.
Starting 10 days to two weeks prior to the onset of your period, some women experience a wide variety of symptoms that include mood swings, anxiety, depression, irritability, and multiple physical symptoms.
This is a real condition that some estimate affects 5.8 percent of menstruating women.
To understand if you have PMDD, you need to keep a journal for a few menstrual cycles.
