Individuals who are fully vaccinated (2+ weeks since the final vaccination), 10 years old and younger, or who cannot medically tolerate a face covering no longer need to wear a mask in our office. Those individuals who are not yet vaccinated, we ask that you still wear a mask in and throughout the office. If you are feeling unwell or are showing any signs of illness, please do not enter Southwest Counseling Associates office.

You can cancel your scheduled appointment directly with your therapist over the phone at no charge, and can set up a remote session. SCA is now encouraging clients experiencing crises to contact Colorado Crisis Services (CCS), which is replacing our in-house emergency pager. We're making the change because CCS has more specialized services and quicker response time than SCA can offer.

CCS specialists have training and experience dealing with a full range of problems requiring immediate attention, such as thoughts of suicide, panic attacks, relational conflict, domestic violence and drug/alcohol problems.

In the mid-1980s Dr Clyde McDowell, then senior pastor of Mission Hills Church and soon to become president of Denver Seminary, conceived of a church extension ministry that would bring God's grace together with the best of clinical expertise to meet the mental health needs of people throughout the Colorado Front Range.
This ministry would support itself through fee-based services, and would also reach the low-income populace through donor-supoorted reduced-fee and pro bono services.
In 1986, with the help of two Christian psychologists, Mission Hills Church launched the ministry, setting up the first Southwest Counseling Associates office near Mineral and Broadway in Littleton.
SCA offers a growing number of professional resources to complement our diverse specialties in psychotherapy.
Counseling comprises a full spectrum of services including individual, couple, family and group counseling.
We treat clients from preschool age up through end of life.
Staff specialties cover most areas of mental health, including treatment for depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety, OCD and marital problems.
Many of our clinical staff have served as ministers in churches and parachurch organizations, and are equipped by training and experience to serve pastors and others in ministerial roles.
SCA provides the highest quality care to all our clients regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, religion or beliefs.
All our therapists are committed, Bible-believing Christians.
Our statement of faith summarizes the key beliefs we draw from our understanding of the Bible.
We do not impose our beliefs on anyone, nor do we reduce all the issues we treat to spiritual problems.
We do, however, consider the spiritual part of life as essential as the mental, social and physical parts.
Choosing a therapist is both a personal and practical process involving such considerations as the client's needs and preferences, the therapist's training and availability, and insurance coverage.
We'll help pair you with the therapist who best fits your situation, your style and your goals.
Whether you have a preference for a particular therapist, it is best to contact our intake coordinator, Larry Zirschky, before attempting to set an appointment.
Larry can tell you which therapists have openings for new clients, which can receive payment from your insurance, and which have specialties that meet your needs.
With an emphasis on time-effective therapy, the 25 licensed counselors at SCA are on the cutting edge of clinical expertise.
Treatment builds on the client's unique strengths and positive experiences to produce desired change.
All of our therapists are qualified to approach counseling from a Christian perspective at the client's request.
We work with clients to assess their needs, to define specific goals and to take practical steps in pursuing their goals.
We also help them manage their feelings by choosing healthy thoughts and living consistently with those thoughts.
