I am licensed in Utah as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) and in Massachusetts as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I specialize in the treatment of pornography and sexual addiction for addicts and their spouses/partners. I have been assisting addicts with recovery in a variety of capacities since the early 1980's, including treatment of alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders and sexual addiction.

This experience includes working in a variety of settings including in-patient psychiatric hospital units, intensive day treatment for mental disorders and addiction, and community mental health agencies. My specialization includes advanced training and certification as a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT) through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals ( IITAP ), which was created by Dr. Patrick Carnes who is a pioneer in the treatment of sexual addiction.

I also am certified as an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist (EFT) through the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy ( ICEEFT ).
Services
Treatment at Healing Vistas may involve three different modes of therapy: Marriage/Couples Therapy, Individual Therapy, and Group Therapy.
All these modes of therapy are available via online counseling using secure encrypted video conferencing.
Research in the past 20 years has shown that all human beings are "wired for connection" with another loving person.
This need for secure attachment is different than co-dependency which limits and constrains a person.
Secure attachment has been described as "effective dependency" by Dr. Susan Johnson, one of the creators of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
When is a person's sexual behavior an addiction versus simply a behavior that sometimes causes problems?
And, how severe do problems have to be for a person to feel he/she needs treatment?
Answering these questions is a deeply personal process and can be complicated.
However, a starting point is to ask yourself if you have experienced distressful consequences due to your sexual behavior, have wanted and tried to stop, but have been unable to consistently abstain from that behavior.
If you feel this describes your experience you may be struggling with sexual addiction.
One-on-one therapy for both the addict and his/her spouse or partner provides a safe environment for the individual to identify, explore and heal deeper issues and wounds that cannot be dealt with effectively in marriage therapy, couples therapy or group therapy.
It is also helpful in treating emotional issues that may co-exist with the problems being experienced by the addict and his/her partner or which may actually be the cause of the problems.
As a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT) I have been trained by Dr. Patrick Carnes who is one of the foremost pioneers in the treatment of sexual addiction.
Addiction has been described as being an "attachment disorder", meaning that instead of learning to have emotionally close relationships that provide support and help a person react with emotional balance to life, the person has learned to turn to the addiction to cope with life.
Group therapy has been known for years to be an effective means for dealing with the isolation and despair addicts experience, as well as the sense of aloneness and shame that is often felt by spouses and partners.
I encourage group members to stay in touch with each other outside of the group to provide ongoing support throughout treatment and beyond.
