David Robbins, MA, LPC
My name is David Robbins and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Boulder Colorado. I offer counseling and psychotherapy to individuals and couples in Boulder, CO and the Denver Metro area. I've been involved with helping individuals, couples, and groups for over 13 years. I hold a Masters Degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University.

In addition to my work as a therapist, I also teach mindfulness meditation and work as a mindfulness instructor and clinical support for the Graduate School of Psychology at Naropa University. I've been involved recently with working individually and in a group format with inmates at the Boulder County Jail who struggle with chronic mental illness.

Prior to working in private practice, I worked as an intern counselor at Naropa University's counseling center. At Naropa, I worked as an individual therapist, offering counseling and psychotherapy to students in need. I've also worked with HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield offering grief support to the recently bereaved.
Services
Individual counseling offers a place to resolve present challenges and old wounds, be heard and understood, and explore your own life journey safely and confidentially.
As one of my former clients put it, counseling is about becoming your own best friend.
In individual counseling we will work collaboratively to create a safe and healing therapeutic experience that will address your unique needs.
We will discuss your goals in the first few sessions.
Creating well-formed goals evolves from exploring the initial issues and challenges you come in with and assessing and inventorying your current resources and strengths.
One of my specialties is working with anxiety.
The source of your anxiety may be known to you.
Perhaps you experienced a single traumatic incident such as being injured in an accident, or witnessing the death of a loved one.
Perhaps you've experienced many traumatic experiences such as ongoing sexual, physical, or emotional abuse occurring over months or years.
Anxiety is generally the outcome of experiences such as these.
You may also experience anxiety and not know the cause.
Regardless of where the anxiety comes from I've found that the combination of a supportive trusting relationship and mindfulness-based counseling is extremely impactful in reducing the suffering you may be experiencing due to anxiety.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a comprehensive, integrative psychotherapy approach.
It contains elements of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols that are designed to maximize treatment effects.
These include psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies2.
EMDR psychotherapy is an information processing therapy and uses an eight phase approach to address the experiential contributors of a wide range of pathologies.
Our love relationships can bring us immense joy and satisfaction, deep connection and healing, and bring up our deepest fears and insecurities; intense sadness and fiery anger.
Relationship counseling can help to explore this miraculous and mysterious process and uncover ways to make the most of the positive and healing aspects of your relationship and learn how to effectively cope with and accept the negative aspects.
For couples about to perform a formal commitment ceremony or marriage I offer pre-commitment or pre-marital counseling to look at any fears, insecurities or challenges you may be facing in taking that step.
You can expect to be met with respect, compassion and patience.
You can expect to be heard and understood in a nonjudgmental way regardless of the issues you (and your partner if you are doing couples counseling) bring to therapy and the information you share.
You can expect my genuine interest and engagement with your life journey and my intention to help you to resolve wounds and create positive shifts in your life.
Our sessions are always private and confidential.
We will begin together by setting initial goals to be worked on and any obstacles or troubling issues that get in the way of achieving these goals will also be looked at and addressed within our therapeutic relationship.
