Is your child having difficulty with sleeping, getting homework done, peer relationships, or arguments about "screen time"? Dr. Nancie Spector specializes in helping parents help their children. D. is a licensed child clinical psychologist with over thirty years of experience. She has expertise in learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, dealing with issues of loss such as divorce and death, and is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

She also conducts parent guidance work: helping parents with their child's sleep, toileting, and feeding issues. Dr. Spector is located in New Canaan, CT. For those who are unable to visit the office, she is able to provide phone or video sessions. Dr. Spector uses a labrador retriever that is a certified facility dog trained by Canine Companions for Independence to help create a welcoming environment for her patients.

He provides great comfort to both children and adults during testing and therapy sessions, and many children tell him their worries.

Although Dr. Spector is not a participating provider with any insurance plans, she does do pre-authorizations for psychological testing and treatment for insurance companies (with explicit permission) in order to obtain out of network benefits.

If your child is an adolescent, parents are given their own account and the adolescent is given a separate account for communication.
Dr. Spector provides individual DBT Skills training to children, adolescents, and parents.
Dr. Spector was a member of the second cohort of the Marsha Linehan Behavioral Tech's Intensive Training for Independent Practitioners in Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
She provides Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Training to children (ages seven and older), adolescents, adults, and parents, and incorporates teaching DBT skills in her work with all patients.
In addition, Dr. Spector currently collaborates with the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, CT and provides individual DBT to adolescents who are participating in the program.
In many situations, it is not necessary for a child to participate in sessions in order to benefit from the expertise of a child clinical psychologist.
In fact, many times a single parenting session with one or both parents or caregivers can be very useful.
Dr. Spector conducts these sessions in person, via phone, or video conference.
Dr. Spector can assist parents with eating, sleeping, and toilet training as well as how to utilize effective discipline.
In addition to running parenting groups, she has given talks in the community at schools, libraries, and hospitals.
