Awareness of persistent systemic racism in our country has recently called for our attention, reminding us once again that the underpinnings of our society, and much of what we take for granted in our daily lives, rests on racist assumptions and values. Karen has experience in successfully treating individuals, couples and families suffering with:.

My office is located in Exton, easy to reach, and convenient for those working or living in Chester Springs, Phoenixville, Downingtown, West Chester, Glenmoore and Coatesville. 20 years of practice experience means I have the skills and practical knowledge to understand emotional problems and intervene relatively quickly. On-going learning and training continues to be an important part of my work.

Devotion to the skills, attention to the practice, and curiosity about human experience sustain my interest in the practice of psychotherapy. This book is published by Phoenix Publishing House and if purchased directly from Phoenix you will receive a 10% discount and free worldwide shipping.

The approach I use is called Object Relations.
This approach has a unique richness in allowing problems to unfold.
This type of therapy works in depth, allowing layers to surface for observation and understanding.
Connections and patterns appear as feelings, dreams, and thoughts emerge and as interactions take place between the client and the therapist.
A lot of my clients don't know what is wrong with them, but they definitely know things are not right.
As a therapist, I am often helping clients put things back together, inside, things that got disconnected or lost that need to be reclaimed.
I work with women, men and couples who are having trouble with their relationships due to stress, miscommunications, lack of emotional understanding or intimacy.
Over my 20 years of practice I have focused on understanding the relationships we build and choose.
Painful feelings and loneliness can be part of all relationships and over time these feelings can become strained and depleted.
If you are looking for someone to work with you on a deep level, where the emotions are often confusing, I am able to tolerate these confusing feelings and sort them out with you.
I return phone calls personally.
Generally I am able to offer an appointment within the week.
Our first session will be a working session.
I will ask you about the problems that are bringing you to therapy at this time.
I will do my best to listen empathically and together we will begin to formulate your goals for the work.
I will recommend the best course of treatment for your particular situation.
I accept some insurances but many of my clients prefer to see me out of network because the therapy is then based on their personal goals and the work they want to accomplish.
Karen Fraley completed her degree from Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and a board certified diplomate (BCD) in clinical social work.
She completed advanced clinical training at the International Psychotherapy Institute in Washington DC, and is a faculty member there.
She started the Philadelphia Psychotherapy Study Center with colleagues Charles Ashbach and Paul Koehler teaching seminars in object relations theory and practice.
On-going seminars and study groups, focusing on an object relations approach to theory and practice, are available in several locations.
Generally the seminars consist of the discussion of a paper or chapter by a major contributor to object relations theory.
In formal case discussions are used to apply the theories and techniques discussed.
Seminars are open to clinicians of all levels of experience, and different practice settings.
Psychotherapy stirs up new awareness and challenges existing beliefs.
