Psychoanalysis offers the most profound opportunity for enduring relief of the symptoms that have impaired the quality of your life. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is based on the same understandings as those underpinning psychoanalysis: how our earliest relationships impact in complex ways our current functioning. It takes a third person, who is outside the entrenched dynamics of any couple, to perceive the impasses and miscommunications, and support the couple in developing new, more fulfilling ways.

Psychoanalysis remains the most radical, life changing therapeutic modality, ever- renewing its vitality and relevance.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is founded on the same understanding as psychoanalysis: our dysfunctional patterns of relating and our difficult states of mind are responses to significant early relationships; and it takes a new relationship with an analytic therapist, to change them.

You are a very successful professional and your personal life or love life is quite fulfilling, yet you are aware of pockets of troubling thoughts and feelings for which you need a good witness and helpful partner to understand and integrate.
You are in one or another form of crisis - whether a relationship impasse, a break-up, suffering from a disorder, an illness or death of someone you love, etc. - and would be coming in with your immediate need defined.
You are functioning well-enough on the surface, while having a sense of something not being right-a feeling that your life and relationships could be richer, more satisfying.

I am a long-established therapist, who has studied and worked within a wide range of orientations, before coming to psychoanalysis 25 years ago, and finding my home in it.
In the 1970's I became a therapist, after a two-year postgraduate program run by a Laingian Existential Analyst, and a Jungian therapist.
I remained in Existential Analysis until moving to Northern California in 1982.
I was simultaneously studying Gestalt therapy, both the focusing/meditative and the expressive forms, and was the Community Gestalt Therapist at Esalen Institute, 1978-79.

I have taught psychoanalysis widely in the Bay Area Community: to candidates in training at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California (PINC); to psychoanalytic psychotherapists through the Northern California Society for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (NCSPP); and to independent study groups in San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland.
I usually teach Case Conference to candidates at all levels; while my teaching for NCSPP is didactic.
In recent years I have taught courses on several analytic writers: Winnicott, Bion, Ferro and colleagues, and Ogden; and topic courses on neuroscience, perversion, and the impact of cyber technology on psychoanalytic therapy.
